I like what they are doing. They should wait until a month before hand to know if they should cancel the event or some of the events. Their is no need to rush into a decision they don't to make now. The wait and see approach should work for them.

With the governor just announcing that all casinos staying closed until end of April at a minimum, this needs to be cancelled earlier rather than later. Even if this event does actually happen (which I sadly don't think will be the case), the ability to put an event of this size on with the city shut down, difficulties with staffing and getting what they need for the event, etc. would be very difficult to make happen. Throw in how this is an international event that attracts people from everywhere, you can't hold an event of this size where it could potentially re-spread the virus.

I don't think it's going to happen this year... + next year they can size up prize money - that would be cool... :)

Given what's going on around me in NY right now, and what I see elsewhere, I don't think there's a chance it will go ahead this year. And I so hate to say that. The best they could do would be to have some events online. All the states should relax their rules and let people play events from home this year.

They should cancel or at least reschedule. Even if the virus declines, such large-scale events will be at risk for some time. I think not many people will be able to come. Let it be better to wait for a while, so it will be safer.:D

Considering that other major events have been either postponed (Summer Olympics now pushed back to 2021), or cancelled outright (The Masters Golf Tournament immediately comes to mind), the fact that Caesar's Entertainment hasn't pulled the plug on the WSOP yet is not smart. As somebody else said, it's a huge undertaking for a mobile festival like this. Hiring extra staff for the 6+ weeks, as well as all the other logistics that go into this event, not to mention all the people who are looking to participate, not being sure if they should be booking a flight/accommodations, etc., it's not something that "just happens".

Just curious for others in here who either would participate/know of people who would participate - is what's going on right now with this pandemic influence your decision? Would you still go, even with the potential of catching this virus? Or are you taking the more cautious step of not going?

I just put this in the Comments section of the article, but it bears repeating:

If Social Distancing protocols are relaxed by the end of May, that’s NOT the same thing as handling chips and cards that are being handled by hundreds of other people, for hours on end.
Live poker tourneys are the first thing that should be cancelled/postponed in the event of a Pandemic of this sort. That means that they should be the last things reinstated.
Just take a look at Maria Lampropulos at the final table of the 2018 PCA Main Event and ask yourself if you want to be sitting next to someone like that in the current state of the world. She was coughing non stop INTO HER HAND for the entirety of the Final Table.

going online sounds like a good idea. Other than that just postpone it.

It is just my opinion .. but I think they should just cancel or maybe even postpone to a much later date .. .. with health concerns being at the top of the list, I think this would be bad to just run as planned, on several levels ...

I think by the time this comes around we should be finding what the new normal is. I think we will have the WSOP but I don't think there will be the turnout that there was last year. I have a feeling that people who would have had some extra money to play with will keep a tighter budget and not play. I also think that the regular pros will have a tough time as well considering the games are not going currently.

Even if the WSOP ends up running, you would think participation would be significantly down. International players potentially not be able to enter the country. As DancingNancie mentioned budget reasons also.

I agree with David " ODB " Baker's statement that the organizers need to wait 4 weeks or more. The event can be saved if it will be moved to another date.

I saw a doctor on TV today talking about when large Gatherings or large events would actually happen again and he said it would be many many months. Those would be the actual last type of gatherings,, that would be safe to have again. So they really just need to cancel the WSOP this year and not give people hope that they're going to have it...

Hi ricki. I agree, don't think any large crowd type events are going to happen until they come out with a vaccine. Even sporting events are talking about playing in empty venues even after things calm down some

Even assuming Covid 19 just disappears overnight, it would still take some more time for the casino industry to pick up. A bit more time than the one month-2 months until the WSOP. The pandemic might have made a dent in people's finances so many players might not be able to afford the expenses that come with travelling plus the buy ins. So in my opinion, if they run it on time, they risk running it at a loss.

It shouldn’t be changed until it’s clear it’s unable to happen. I think that gloves and masks should be imposed at the tables but that could also lead to more problems and complaints by pros who believe this would give an edge to amateurs
