I'm looking for peoples input on how effective HUDs can actually be, whether you track all of your poker statistics, and if you bother to review hand histories and study other parts of your game.
I have used HUDs before mostly on free trials. I never understood how to use the stats effectively enough to warrant paying for one. How helpful of a tool do you find it to be and if you do use them, what are some of the key stats to apply?
Off an on throughout my poker "career" I have tried to find ways to track my progress and keep up with how much I'm actually spending and making. It is simple enough to do if all you are tracking is money spent and money made, however I would love to get more in depth. What are some of the best and easiest ways to track your poker games. Time played, session length, stakes, all that good stuff. I have tried several excel templates but they are often not what I'm looking for.
The above leads to my next question of how much time do you spend analyzing your own poker game. Do you load hand histories and pour through them or note specific hands to review later? If you track your poker games do you then weekly, monthly, yearly sit down and review your progress and look for weakness? Maybe their is a game or stake you haven't performed well in or after a certain length session your profits drop. I feel stuff like this would be valuable knowledge to anyone willing to take the time to record.

These Poker HUDs as live assistance provide a plethora of stats and info. I only use this part of the software in a limited way... I just have a readout that tells me the VPIP PFR Agg & 3 bet
Knowing whether somebody is nit, rock, tag, lag, fish or maniac is for me the most vital info along with the PFR to a lesser extent. Playing in MTTs where you have no idea whether the opening shove means AA or 10 6 off is difficult enough, and when you finally figure out that after 9 more deals that player doesn't play another hand then folding your AJs was probably a good fold... But... As soon as you get a good read on the players round the table you get booted off to another table and have to start again... I had the pleasure tonight of playing with somebody called '3betjam' Turns out he 3 bet a lot and shoved his whole stack... anyway... Tracking software identifies the players you can target and those you should avoid...
Mostly tho... I use the stored data to analyze what hands are profitable and in what position etc... Being able to study your own play and learn from mistakes as well as good play is by far the biggest advantage of this kind of software... I do study it a lot and it does store so much info...
