Where do you put your HUD?

Do you display your own HUD stats?

What do you do with the HUD for the guys sitting at the bottom, to avoid it interfering with the play buttons bottom right and the chat box bottom left?

My current layout feels counter-intuitive by having their stats well above their avatar for most players, it would probably be more intuitive to have their stats underneath them. The challenge then comes with the guy to my left, and myself.

I'm not particularly interested in chat: I don't play in any CC tournaments (where the chat would actually interest me) and for the micro levels that I play at chat is generally either somebody saying what an idiot somebody else is or talking in a foreign language, often using Cyrillic script. However I am interested in the check boxes immediately above the chat box, with things such as sit out next hand, fold to any bet, auto rebuy, auto add on etc.

If you display your own stats, where do you put them? I might stick them up the top somewhere, out of the way, as I don't refer to my stats nearly as often as I do to those of other players.

I did have my stats slightly below me and to the right, so that it didn't cover up the time bar, but then it interfered with the play buttons. It's not so bad in MTTs where I only need a few stats, but in 9-man SNGs I am starting to feel that I would benefit from more stats, which would obviously take up even more room.

Your HUD looks very large in when you compare it to the amount of stats you actually have showing. On FTP, first thing I did was remove the table set out displaying those huge avatars.

Just switch from classic to racetrack, it puts their avatars in their name/chip count box. Takes up less space, easier and much easier to put your HUD's up. I just fit them nicely under their chip stack and it fits well.

Secondly, I'd adjust your actual hud size. and remove the players names. It takes up unnecessary space on your screen, if you really really want their name showing then just switch to "short names" as opposed to their full name. You don't even need their name showing though..I'd then adjust my font on the size of the HUD. I think PT4 default is font size is 10 or 11, I just switched it down to around 8.

I use placemint to make the tables really small. (440X370) then my hud fits around the edge of them. I have 16 tables to the monitor and it works ok for me

Preference is just below the time bar/player's name. If that's not possible I just anything else closest.

Placemint looks like fun.

Switching from classic to racetrack did the trick, thanks.

I need player names at the moment. When I'm playing tournies and it moves me to another table it (HM2) seems to be sticking with the old players' names for a few hands afterwards, only when I restart the HUD - or even restart HM2 on some occasions - does it change, then quite often one of the other tables I'm running will seem to seize up and stop updating. Think I might need to try reinstalling HM2.

I can change it to short names, that will take up less space as you said, and fiddle some more with font sizes.

Thanks again :)

Placemint is great. I cropped down that screenshot as I use 4 monitors but had another 8 tables on the monitor to the left. Placemint works great with pokerstars but I haven't found another client that allows you to shrink the tables down this small. I think that this is a Pokersite problem and one of the reasons why Pokerstars are successful. To make money playing poker you need volume and Pokerstars and Placemint together provide that. No other site I know of allows you to make the tables so small. I just wish I knew how to use placemint properly as there are some functions in there I'd love to use but simply don't understand and the lack of tutorials and information make this difficult. Its free to download and use by the way.

We advise the following:

  1. Remove player avatars
  2. Switch to racetrack format for better positioning
  3. Remove the player names if you can assure that the positioning is correct first
  4. Keep as few stats on-screen as possible, rely on Popups whenever possible.

Sometimes less is more... never let the HUD interfere with your in-game experience, instead use the HUD to help augment your experience!

You do not need to restart. This is the expected behavior in both HM2 and PT4 in tournaments, the HUD will only update after a hand has been played and the hand history has been imported. We advise placing the player name inside the popup instead of on the table, this way you can check if your unsure of the accuracy.

Also note that as blinds increase, you may see a delay in data accuracy such as live big blinds; or in tournaments when your using filters based on stack size it might cause confusion because the sample sizes change over time. These are the inherent issues with tournaments that do not have ideal solutions like we can provide in cash games due to the nature of the changes that occur as the tournament progresses.

You can shorten the length of the name stat in the HUD Settings > Stat Appearance > Name > Stat Setting > Decimal = 1 or 2 instead of 0.

Great info in here already but will just add that once you get used to your hud layout and which stat sits where you can remove the VP, AG part from the hud to pretty much double the space or cut the hud layout in half...but typically only for the common stats you use like in your hud....i have a large hud for cash games like 4 lines i use sometimes so still have some shorthand on the stats that i don't use on my mtt/stt hud (which i think i should add some stats on to be honest lol).

Thanks Fozzy, not exactly intuitive but I have used a decimal setting of 2 to shorten player names.

Reinstalling HM2 seemed to cure the seizing up of the HUD, so I can only surmise that it was something to do with the beta version that I installed recently to deal with Full Tilt UK being released.
