This is a question I've been asking myself lately and I think there maybe some others that are interested in some responses. For those of us that are playing with small BR's, when would you consider making the purchase. I don't think that anyone doubts that HEM or PT3 are useful tools BUT can you put a dollar value on it. If you are a winning player, will it potentially pay you back the $100 bucks or so it'll cost you to purchase it? I understand there are plenty of variables into winning poker, so lets leave that out of the equation as much as possible. Thanks in advance to any opinions.

MODS: If you think this should've been posted in the Poker Software, please move it there :)

Edit: Thanks, I thought it might have some value to those in the general section but I guess it should be in the software folder

You should buy HEM on the very same day you learn of its existence. Any delay is just burning money.

when I found out what these poker tools cost, it was an easy decision no to buy into any of it, PT3 or even HEM for that matter, I went without them this long and I seem to cashing enough to keep my bankroll looking good, I'm not saying I could buy a car with my winnings or anything, but since I play for a hobby and don't need to worry about making a living off of it, I see no need to buy any of it, but at the same time, everyone has different opinions on the subject.

I have had poker tracker since it was version 2, never regretted buying it. It has helped me way more than the 6-7 book I have bought. and I payed more for the books than the software.

One place the software really helps that people don't mention much is tracking your total wins/losses.

ok I take it back, I just downloaded the trial version, and I have to say that it is pretty amazing, all this time I have been trying to track my MTT's on paper, now since I am new to such software, I just have to learn how to use it.

Maybe this question deserves its own thread, but since it vaguely fits into the topic of 'when to buy software', I'll ask it here: For a small stakes/micro stakes player just getting started playing seriously, is it better to buy the full version of Hold'em Manager, or just save the extra cash and buy the small stakes edition? Or is it even worth it to have analysis software at that level?

Also, has anyone used Tournament Indicator? I downloaded the 48-hour trial a few weeks back and definitely saw some improvement in my SnG and MTT play with the software. Would it be more valuable to get something like that, or do the features of HEM outweigh it?

I am actually playing better without the tracker

I was just going through all the deals on PT3 and HEM as my original trial on PT was about to expire and I decided not to go for the buy at the moment. First there is some free db which is having just the basic functionality but could do the basic tracking for a beginner like me should there be a need. But above it I realized that I am actually playing significantly better(freerolls mostly) without the HUD than with it:). Anyone has an idea why this SW tool apparently does not work for me?

If you're an MTT player put it this way, if it means the difference of moving up a place just once at the final table in only one tournament it will probably pay for itself. Having a HUD at a table is also invaluable for multitabling cash games or SnGs.
