Disclaimer: I am unfamiliar with how a HUD works exactly, I haven't bought any of them yet.

It's often said that the weakness of the HUD is that you make flawed decisions if your sample size is too small. But I am thinking that there must be another, more intrinsic weakness.

Here is a random quote from the other thread about shoving and opponents range: "You need to better than x% against your opponent's range, not the specific hand he has, though that x isn't 50. "

Yes, players differ in their ranges. Below your level, at your level, above your level there are players that are more agressive than you and some that are more nitty than you, and the HUD gives you info on their range.

But what if the same player changes his style? Personally, I have two more or less opposite play styles I use. One of them I use at the 2NL and the other in the CC freerolls, but I can switch between the two styles at the tip of a hat if I want to.

And I do switch, or combine them, in response to players at my table, for instance an agressive player behind me. I imagine many other players, at higher levels than my level, are able to change their range and playstyle quite a lot.

Doesn't this hurt the quality of the info your HUD gives you about a player?

It's not about me, I am just asking.

But you are making my argument :) Right now I am a bad player, If I become a better player my play will change, and the info will be obsolete to some degree, right?

Also, do you never change your play according to your table environment? You play like a robot?

Don't worry about me dude, I will get a HUD when I become a better poker player.

No need to get so defensive when asked a very simple question IMO. What I gather from your answer is that you DO play like a robot based on the info your HUD gives you, but that's probably not the whole answer.

The Hud information is only a part of your decision making process and shouldn't be used by itself.

Also unless you have a sufficient number of hands on someone you can't really take the stats too seriously - unless they have given you reason to do so.

If you change your playing style over a sufficient number of hands it will be reflected in your stats. It is easy to pick up fairly quickly when someone's play on your table is different than the hud stats indicate - and honestly that doesn't happen often enough to be a huge concern.

While I think HUDs are very important in succeeding at online poker, anyone who relies too much on them is only cheating themselves.
