I don't use a HUD and until recently I didn't even know they existed. I am debating whether I should start using one to help improve my game and also be able to better read my opponents.

How useful do players find using a HUD as apposed to playing without one?

Can't imagine playing w/o anymore. It's not only about having the HUD while playing but for having your hands recorded for session reviews, too. For the micros I would recommend FPDB (free poker Database), because it's free. When you're making money you might want to invest in PT4 or HM2. Their setup is a little bit more comfortable (know only PT4 myself) and they have some additional features.

Personally I'd recommend getting one because it does start to help your game with some of the aspects that are harder to pick up (reading opponents, odd calculations, and closing up leaks). Reading opponents is probably the biggest on of that list and probably the one thing that HUD's all do and are best used for, and it really comes down to saving/winning you some money in the long run. For example say you're playing a table a have QQ in late position against a villain that you don't know their ranges yet, flop comes A 7 6 and villain raises some big amount. This play can go very differently with or without HUD, without HUD its probably safe to fold and not risk him having a set or top pair that beats you. With HUD you might be able to see that he's a fish been a fish the last dozen or so hands and you might be able to tell he's bluffing or overplaying the six or a weaker pocket pair, conversely you could see him labeled as a shark and know that if he's betting big he has something big and feel better bout folding pocket Q. Really HUDs just offers extra information that some players might not be picking up on that could save/win them chips.

Another benefit is that most HUDs let you replay hands so you can go back through and see what hands did I do the best on and which did I lose a ton on and start to clean up some of the mistakes you might not notice you're making during the game. You can use this to practice some of your range reading if you have a lot of a hands against some opponents from longer sessions. There's a lot of data that you can pick up just from looking at the older hands like that.

So I'm all for getting one but I know that they aren't exactly cheap but depending on your site you can usually get at least a week trial to test it and find the right one for you. There's also some free HUD type things out there (https://www.pokervip.com/strategy-articles/texas-hold-em-no-limit-intermediate/best-free-poker-huds) that link has some stuff about it and reviews of some of the ones you can try so you can make the best decision but definitely do some research because there might be some other free things out there. Just make sure you're informed about the one you want to get and that it works for whatever poker client you want to use and you should be good to go.

Sorry that was a ton of info but I hope it helps and the HUDs work wonders for you!

I tried one a long time ago and it was complicated so quit then I downloaded free trial a month ago and cant imagine not having one ever again . When you start don't try using everything all at once look at a few stats you find good and work with those .

Pokertracker 4 and holdemmanager both offer 1 month free trials . so you can check them out i chose PT4 but is a matter of preference they are both very similar . if you only play at pokerstars there is one called Jivaro that some of the pros use but it is limited to PS

I highly recommend getting one

Thanks for the info! I will definitely look in to getting a free trial and see how my game goes with it. I know I have more than one leak which I need to fix, so this may be perfect for finding it and highlighting it!

I play without him and I think that in MTT he is not needed.

I'm on my free trial of PT4 and threre's quite a bit to learn, I think, before it becomes useful. I'm going to stick with it and see what happens. At the moment it is just distracting because I'm not used to how to make the info work for me.
