I need to figure out how to purge some of my datamined hands also. But have you considered using an SSD drive? will definitely speed up your performance.

Could you start a new database and sort thru your processed hands by date? Hands older than a few months (subjective) have little value in deciding how a player is playing today. Yes, they might help define a range for a player, but they might also be evidence that the player was still learning the rules of the game when you started recording his hands.

this isnt really worthwhile for me, as i log between 3-10k hands a day, everyday lol. most of my data is current.

also if i delete hands, wouldnt that mean that my winnings graphs, positional winnings/losses, winnings/loses with certain starting hands etc be affected? cos i definitely want to keep this informatiion

If you purge or delete hands the results/graphs/hudstats for those hands will be gone.

Check out this thread for information about increasing performance and tuning your postgresql.conf file - http://forums.holdemmanager.com/manager-general/11194-top-10-hem-performance-increase-tips.html

The best thing you can do is to regularly Vacuum, Analyze, and Reindex your database in PGAdmin, especially if you are using NoteCaddy as the definitions can significantly increase database size - http://hm2faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/1171/Vacuum+Analyze+Database+

HM2 has built in maintenance/tuning in the Database Manager but currently you will be best off if you do it manually as explained above.

Home > Database > Purge:

- [x] Save Hands Played by: pick your site screen name (do not pick an alias that has multiple site's screen names)
- poker sites: [x] Pick the site for the screen name you picked above

solid state drive instead of a hard disk drive. SSD is exponentially faster than a HDD for system reboot/startup, program startup, importing hands, processing notecaddy notes, retrieving database data in reports, etc.

Those performance increase tips all seem good to me.

Some like -6 Defrag is fast and free. No reason not to do it if you have a operating system/drive that need it and have not done it in some time.

To OP:
How large is the data base in GB?

Edit: How much RAM do you have?

But sadly if it is a large slow data base on a sluggish laptop 5400 RPM drive. Then there is no magic fix just small improvements to do. The good thing is that one have an excuse to go and get coffee if it is really snaillike.

I just saw the same SSD i put in my PC last November (OCZ Vertex 3 120gb) for $54.99 on sale. Prices have dropped alot. I paid about $200 i believe.

My only complaint at the time was that 120gb is a bit small. i try and just use it for critical stuff, but some things just want to default install on your main drive.

I may build another system in the next couple months, and would definitely go bigger next time.

I bought a 160gb Intell SSD 2 years ago for $475.

I can get a 600gb Intel SSD for the same price now. :(
