Am I allowed to search for someone and check if they are a winning player using sharkscope? Read soemthing today that sounded like you mgiht not be allowed (could have just been reffering to the HUD I suppose) but seen some higher stakes player on 2p2 write things like they looked someone up on SS and they were a losing player. Looked on ps website but couldn't see anything.

I haven't found where it explicitly says you can't use SharkScope, but then again I never looked too hard either.

afik, it is frowned upon to look up players while playing. Don't know the penalties, if any, that PS might give out if you're caught.

Long story short: I have no idea... :)

I thought the rule was you can't use any sharkscope while pokerstars is open and/or you are playing.

By the letter of the TOS, you cannot use it while the PS client is running. As to enforcement, well they used to detect when you did it, but due to outcry from some Euro countries with pretty strict privacy laws, they abandoned the runtime check for it and it's up to the honor system now.

That said, it's still considered a TOS violation to access it while PS is running, so if someone were dumb enough to broadcast in chat or on a monitored forum that they're doing it, then I would laugh when PS called them on it. Especially if you do something stupid like throw a fish's results back in his face to taunt him, and then he reports it to a chat moderator.

There are some tools and services which have legitimate uses for analysing your game, but which are not appropriate for use during play. For example, ICM (Independent Chip Model) and Nash Equilibrium tools may be used for post-game analysis and for studying hands which you have previously played. Also, there are some web-based results databases, and its fine to use these to look at your own results. However, you may not use such a tool while the PokerStars software is open.

Some examples of tools and services which are prohibited only while PokerStars is running are:
...
19. SharkScope (including SharkScope HUD)

So it's not allowed then, thanks. Does anyone know about pokerprolabs because that isn't on the list dmmorris provided but basically tells you if someone is a winning player.

Surprised its banned because of seen several people who play $100+ BI HU say they checked to see if someone was a winning player, the context it was written in suggested in play.

Prolabs is allowed as far as i'm aware. It's pretty much the same, you can set up the HUD to show you in game if someone is winning/losing, and you can even filter the results down, so it's like the SHarkscope hud but it's allowed. The reason i got was that pokerprolabs worked with poker sites in the development stages, which sounds like total BS to me but whatever, it's apparently Legal.

And sharkscope is one of those things that apparently isn't allowed, but is almost impossible to police, use it away from games if your paranoid, but i've been using it for years with games running and know of a lot of people who do the same.
