I've been using PokerStove a lot lately, and when I post a hand for analysis in the forums I find myself wanting to revisit the hand & rework the #'s a little as a discussion about it progresses.

Problem is I can't figure out how to save a particular hand in the PokerStove software (presumably to a file that would save to my desktop) so I don't have to plug in every single range & combo whenever I want to tweak the hand and re-think the equity.

I've tried to save it (File -> Save) to a ".pts" file, but all it does is save a blank file. Am I missing something here? Is it possible to do? And if not, does anyone know if HoldemViewer (or some other range tool) allows you to save specific hands to review later? Thanks.

Poker Stove saves all of it's evaluations into a text file in the same directory that has Stove in it. The contents of the file look like this

---
41,095,296 games 0.110 secs 373,593,600 games/sec

Board:
Dead:

equity win tie pots won pots tied
Hand 0: 77.537% 77.37% 00.17% 31794840 69066.00 { AA }
Hand 1: 22.463% 22.30% 00.17% 9162324 69066.00 { 87s }

---

Find this file and you should be able to find your different evaluations.

Just noticed that. Thanks! but I was talking about inputting a hand back into PStove. It's not a huge deal, but if I've got a hand I'm coming back to more than once (and if it's not something super easy which would take a few seconds to re-enter) it would be nice to be able to open that hand back up in PStove.

(Btw, what is the Save function for if it's not actually saving a file w/ any info in it?)

I highly suspect that the Save function was never completed :( The author of Poker Stove stopped work on it sometime in 2008.

Yeah, bummer. Any thoughts on the other products out there? Seems like Stove is basically THE only program people use, though I know some other inferior products exist ... well, at least none that are as much the standard that Stove is.

I like Holdem Ranger as it's range input methods is better than Stove but it appears that this software has disappeared from the webs.

Equilab is another tool you can use. It actually does everything stove does and more. Make sure you play with the scenario analyser. http://www.pokerstrategy.com/software/10/

Just now (weeks later) downloaded some of the programs in this thread. I'm like Equilator. It's a little sluggish, but it's got a nice interface, and the ability to save (& bring up) hands is a biiig plus. I'll chime in if I change my mind.

But I think either way we ought to summon the ghost whoever wrote PStove and get him to update it it a little.
