Choice of Tracking Software + HUD

I had never used any software support, but I think it's time to take the plunge. The issue is that before buying it I started to look at other soft to make sure I estoi buying the most appropriate, and I found the pt4, I think it has the same functions as the hm2 but also think it shows in the tables in real time calculations of our hand (odds, pot odds, combos ... ect).
So what think is better?
What advantages does one over the other?
I had always heard of hm2

Advice needed for a HUD

I want a HUD. But it is clear from the various threads relating to PT and HEM that both of these would probably be beyond my capabilities to get up and running. I find that people also have some problems with Poker Office and FPDB, so I am looking for help in choosing an easily-installed programme.

Bear in mind: I don't care how much it costs;
I was born before the first electronic computer was invented, so this stuff does not come easily to me (it was sines, cosines and tangents that got me my GCE maths);
I don't need it to calculate odds nor to keep track of my losses (sorry profits) as I have a pencil and paper for that.
I just want basic statistics on my opponents, based on the hand histories I keep.

Perhaps someone who understands my reservations can help? Thanks.

HEM2 and PT4 both have free trials so you can see which you prefer, there's next to no setup needed as you just install it and it creates a database for you. There are preset HUD templates too which you can use and there's tonnes of support for both.

Start saving your HH's. It may not be automatic. You do that at the site, probably in 'option's

PT4 and HEM will soon be the same, they announced they are merging.

PT4 will do all the heavy work for you when you install it. I assume HEM would do the same.

Do you mean the products or the companies?

The companies merged last year, with the apocryphal statements about keeping separate product lines and intentions to continue supporting both products.

The duopoly became a monopoly at that time anyway.

Thanks. I've been saving hand histories anyway. I've looked at PT and HEM installation instructions and am not convinced they will be straightforward for me; and I had realised that PT has a manual and HEM doesn't. But it's a help to know that PT will probably be easier for me.

Bottom line is that if I can do this, ANYBODY can. I've actually seen, on forums in the past, players willing to pay other players for coming over and getting the prgrammes underwway. Poker Office looked to be somewhat easier. I'll keep you posted.

I'm still on XP Pro; will that make any difference?

Shouldn't, but if you can afford trackers, why not W7 ?

PokerTracker and Holdem Manager are now owned by the same company and we also own other third party products and services such as CardRunners - but each brand remains autonomous. PokerTracker and Holdem Manager will remain separate applications, there is no plans to merge the two softwares even though our company has merged. We believe the right thing for poker players is to provide choice, the two applications will remain separate so you can pick between the two different workflows. Behind the scenes our teams will be working on some unified projects such as improved websites and server-side solutions but this is primarily only changes that will affect developers and management.... the actual developer teams for PT4 and HM2 remain separate and fairly autonomous.

I'm still on XP Pro; will that make any difference?

Our advice is to stop using XP... it is no longer supported by Microsoft, therefore it is a big security risk for any online poker player. We support Windows Vista or greater, but in reality we recommend Windows 7 or greater at this stage. https://www.pokertracker.com/faq/PT4#Minimum_Requirements

PS: Both PokerTracker 4 and Holdem Manager are "Trackers" that include a HUD. The Tracker is the application, the HUD is just one of many features of the Tracker.

We recommend you try the free 30 day trials of both PokerTracker 4 and Holdem Manager 2 to decide for yourself which workflow is best for your playing experience. Only you can decide which is best.

PS: Pot odds are not calculated in game, these are only provided after the hand has been completed in the replayer.

Yes, thanks, I realised that.

As for W7 I had read up. and W7 is obviously much nearer XP in appearance than W8 although apparently W8.1 has made some alterations. Now 10 is coming, it gets confusing. I've had XP on my computers since it came out and am in no hurry to change because it's so easy to use. I'll have to see what my mate, who puts them together for me, recommends.

As a user of both PT4 and HEM2 I suggest PT4 if you want more stability but HEM2 if you need more in depth analysis

The free one with Carbon is good. Paddy Power Poker have the same HUD free. To buy it is about 80 dollars I think. I think eventually its worth making the investment. I have poker tracker 4 about a year now and I do believe I've improved because of it.

When I was picking a HUD I almost bought holdem indicator, which is the free carbon one because I prefer its graphical display but I bought pt4 in the end. The HUD itself isn't so pretty but there is more you can do with pt4 in the long run.

I have HM2, and I do like it. But I find myself not using it as much as I used to. I am playing smaller stakes and I just pay attention. I think a HUD is good for a lot of situations, but like if I am playing a tourney and dont have many going, which is pretty much always these days, I just pay attention to what is happening at the table.

The more tables you play and the higher the stakes, the more helpful a HUD will be, provided you know how to use it.

For a recreational player, if you got money to burn, sure, why not. But not necessary IMO. But, as I said, if you know how to use it (and this is paramount to a HUD being any help at all) it wont hurt.

Paying attention to the action at the tables is like having a HUD in your head. But for cash games you do have the advantage of past data being available.

You decision may also be affected by which site you are playing. There are some sites that neither PT4 or HM2 will work properly if at all.

HEM2 and PT4 are great for analysing your game plus you can use a hud for stats in your database to keep you clued up as to how your opponents are playing. I use HEM2 for analysis and PT4 for whilst I'm playing as PT4 is much lighter on the processor. Hope this is some use to you

Both programs have instructional/setup videos in the software and HM2 even has some free coaching videos in the software. There are also a variety of free videos on youtube and other poker coaching sites.

Hello people!

So I've finally made myself enough money in my modest bankroll to make a withdrawal for buying a HUD.
I was thinking either PT4 or HM2.
Wich one would you recommend and why?

Differences between the two?
Pros and cons?
Other alternatives?

Any advice or comments regarding this matter would be greatly appreciated :)

Cheers:)

One of the things about PT4 that totally amazes me is that with Zoom poker, the HUD for a player often shows up before the Player does.

No idea how well HM handles Zoom.

That's probably because pokerstars provides some kind of API/shared memory/? to PT4 so it actually "knows" about players before the PS Client "gets a chance" to draw its GUI. (or at least that would be my guess; I was always curious how PT4/HM2 handles Zoom tables - nobody wanted to tell me though. It's a biiiiiiiig secret! )
No idea how well HM handles Zoom.

It works fine. On the other hand HM2 + NoteCaddy is a completely different story (but it also depends on few other factors).
