Personally I feel that Poker Tracker is better because its more personalized and made for the hardcore poker player

Personally, I prefer HEM to PT3. I used the trials for both, and decided on HEM.

I've tried both (trials) and since then have started to use HEM. My reason is simply that I like the HEM interface better and I feel that it was easier for me to get used to than PT3; for me HEM feels more comfortable. I also like how they have Omaha Manager as well though I only play PLO once every 10 games or so.

No idea why he said that, but it's pretty laughable.

Both are certainly functional and well worth their cost, no matter which you prefer. I used PT2 briefly and then PT3 as soon as the beta was available. I used it for months before HEM came out, and being the software junkie that I am, had to take HEM for a spin. I preferred HEM from pretty much day one and have been with it ever since. I would say that PT3 may be a slight favorite for tournament players, or at least they used to be. But that might not even be true anymore, since HEM has beefed up their tourney support quite a bit since they came out. If they haven't already, I'm pretty sure HEM is close to surpassing PT3's market share.

This thread bump is timely for me, lol. I just installed HEM as a free trial, so I am still figuring it out. I will play a tourney later; however, I am playing a SNG now on FTP, and there is no HUD. Should there be one for SNG's? Under HUD Options, I have the "use for tourneys" check. Am I missing something else? Thanks.

Yes, HEM's HUD works for SnGs. It's considered a tourney. Have you setup your auto-import folders? If so, is HEM capturing the HHs and collecting the stats? If not, then the HUD won't work without stats. If so, then it sounds like you have the HUD misconfigured. Do you have the correct site set for the HUD configuration, or are you using the "All sites" option?

I am not sure. How would I know?

Not sure where I find that option. Do I need to run HEM and click Start Auto Import under the Select an Import Option before the tourney starts?

Thanks for your help. :)

yes noble you have to make sure you click on start auto import...thats when the HUD starts running.

it usually takes 5 - 10 hands before it pops up

Yes you must start auto import. This launches the Table Manager which drives the HUD.

But it shouldn't take 5-10 hands for the HUD to start. No more than 1-2 hands for me. It should pop up on the first hand imported without error by HEM, and usually HEM catches the first hand you were dealt into (after the hand is over). So the HUD usually appears on the 2nd hand you're dealt, although occasionally it'll take one more hand to show.

well ive been using it with rush poker..which does take about 5 hands minimum..which is probly equal to 1-2 regular hands lol

Well, I started another SNG. Hand importing is definitely happening; I can see HEM updating after each hand. But I still do not have any HUD.

Yes, that is checked. I clicked Relaunch HUD, and that made it work. Not sure why it does not start on its own, though.

HEM is prettier.

If you are playing tournaments then PT3 is definitely ahead in tournament functionality.

What stops someone from doing free trials over and over? Do you have to put address and credit card info on file before getting a free trial? Do huds run while you have tilt and stars open?

They just know that you have had a free trial before. Can't remember if you have to register or if it just registers to your PC. The HUDs run while you are playing. Here is an example

Generally people not trying to be thieves works wonders.... (plus I am sure they log your IP address as well...)

I'd like to hear why as well. This was certainly true during HEM's early days, but I don't believe it's the case for the last year or so. Unless PT3 has added a lot more since I last used it (I left PT3 for HEM when HEM was released).

Trial software usually installs hidden files and/or registry keys that identify itself as being installed previously. Going further, some may also require a trial key activation. HEMs activation procedure has changed a few times since I've owned it so I'm not sure if their current trial requires remote activation or not, but I expect it does since I've seen reference to their sales department being able to reset/extend your trial presumably by issuing a new trial key.

They can identify your PC by a unique hardware hash -- similar to how Windows Activation works -- that will detect if you attempt to reinstall a trial version.

You don't enter CC info for the trial.

As for the HUD, it runs (on compatible poker sites) no matter how many different sites you have open. You just need to configure the HUD for the sites you use, and it will auto-detect the tables from there.

They have done a TON of work since you left. 90% of their new development in the last year has been on tournament related functionality. Everything from simple stuff like displaying stacks in BB or M on your HUD to extensive tagging of tournaments so you can analyze results by all sorts of tournament types. Turbos vs regular, rebuy tournies, satelites, KO's etc. (Or whatever combo of criteria you want to use, it's user definable)

Auto-imports stars audit reports now as well so you can get all your R/A info auto-loaded as well as get old tourney buyin/winnings info if you have the tournies in the DB but never brought in the tourny summaries. (This can save you a TON of work if you want to get all your $$$-related items for past history.)

Also, runs handgrabbing and HUD for bodog tournies, which HEM (unless recently changed) does not. HEM only supports Cash.

Support for grabbing bounty prizes on FTP and elsewhere where it is available so you don't have to do it yourself.

I'm sure there is much more, that's just off the top of my head. Also, I read te HEM forums extensively during this period (since I am a volunteer tester for PT's new releases - I was curious what HEM did/didn't do.) If you read the Tournament improvements thread there, even the posters on the HEM site itself make it clear that they feel they are well behind PT3 for tournaments.

I speak for MTT's specifically. For you SNG grinders, there might be more of an argument as to which is better if you are using all the extra purchase addins on HEM.

If you really want to know, just go to the PT forums and check out the release notes threads. And FWIW, I know the stuff works as a lot of things got done to my specs or a variation on what I requested, as I was the contributor that played MTT most/ cared most about MTT stuff.
