I'm just beginning to play for real money and i've been thinking about investing in PT4 what bothers me is there arent many sites that use it, and me being from California, of those that do use it it's illegal. Can somone point me in the right direction?

It depends how you plan to use software like HM or PT. Will you use it only to analyze your hands or you plan to use it as a HUD also? If you plan to use it for analyze only and not while you play i think that there is no site where such behavior is illegal so go ahead. If your main interest is the HUD section you should check first if huds are allowed in the site where you play. My advice is to first use the trial version for one month and see if it works for you before shelling the cash for the full. If you want just a hud easy poker hud is good completely free basic alternative.

I didn't know PT4 was illegal anywhere. Seems unlikely since it is so popular, along with HM2. Looking at the PokerTracker website all of the sites below would seem to be legal. Certainly I've never had any issues using it at different sites.

As far as whether it's "worth it" that depends on how technical you want to get with your game IMO. It is a very comprehensive tool that has a learning curve. You are getting your money's worth if you're the kind of person who wants to use a fancy and powerful tool. I don't use it anymore because I play mostly Zoom poker at pokerstars and I find that I do better relying on my own observations.
