It used to be that you could get old HH's from Stars via a form (one of the drop down options). And you could get massive amounts of HH's per each request. I do not remember what massive means in this context.
But keep this in mind. You are not the player you were a year ago, are you? Your villains have probably changed their game as well. So having HH's that reflect either your hands or your villains hands from long ago will actually skew the info PT (or HEM) would present you in your HUD. I personally prefer to restrict what my HUD shows me to the last 100 hands. I feel this gives me a better understanding of how my villains are playing today, at this hour, and it also gives me a good idea of what image I am projecting at my tables now.
If you are hoping to get a tracking of your win/loss stats, it might work well at Stars, but might not work well with all sites. If you are a tourney player, it will be very labor intensive. You will need to manually enter tourney results in many cases.
Another thing to keep in mind is that most sites have been trimming the folders on your computer all along. Usually the option was to keep HH's for 30 days (or whatever), then those HH's would have gone to the bit bucket anyway.
