Yeah, I've used both Hold'em Manager and PokerTracker. Currently prefer Poker Tracker. I started using them pretty quickly in my online experience so they've always seemed a normal part of the game for me. Virtually always new users seem to be amazed at how helpful they are and how they managed without one for so long. Especially if you are multi-tabling, they are pretty-much a neccessity.

That said, they are likely more useful for cash games to some degree, but are still very helpful in tournaments as well. You'll occassionally hear a tourney guy say he doesn't use them at all, but you rarely (never) hear a serious cash gamer say the same.

I honestly don't know if there is anything out there for Stud, but there definately is for both hold'em and all versions of Omaha. My best advice would be to try the free trials that are available for both and see what you think. Most likely you'll end-up liking one of them enough to purchase it, and if not, you aren't really out anything except a little of your time trying it out.

If you do decide to try one; I'd start with just the basics first. There are literally so many stats available (likely even ones you never even thought-of), that it can be easy to get overwhelmed at first. So, start with just the basics and slowly add from there as you get comfortable with the software.

Well, just persoanl preference, but if you're just starting-out I'd try PT first. I used HM1 for years and was fairly competant with it, but when they "upgraded" to HM2 they just changed everything so much that the program seemed needlessly complex, almost to the point of unuseability, for me. PT seems a LOT easier to get going and get up to speed with. Their tutorials and "help" sections are also far, far superior to HM so that should help you get started as well.

Using Pokertracker 4 atm. Great for keeping track of your stats, but if you're using it for sng's you have to manually add in the 25/50c 45/90 man's because it registers them as mtt's for some reason.

Trackers will help a lot, not only because the stats of your opponents when are playing and track of your results, but also because help to review your games, look on replayer difficult hands, look your numbers and how are you playing in general.

It also helps to get some stats like number of tables you still profitable, $/hr, type of games and buyins you are winning more, etc.

At the beginning is hard to figure all the stats but go simple at first with the basics and move from there.

Well, downloaded and installed, but...

I do not have the first idea what is going on :(

Don't know what it all means, how it helps, how to get stats, etc, etc :(

Possibly it is not for me?

OK, so I'm assuming everything downloaded and installed properly. Unless you really know what you're doing, generally just accept all the defaults that PT wants.

Anyway, after that when you first start PT, at the main screen, you should see 3 buttons at the top left: Community/Play Poker/ View Stats. If it's not already, click on "Community". That should take you to a page full of guides, FAQs, and tutorials. If you look under the "Guides and FAQs" section you should see a "PT4 Quick Start Guide" that should give you at least some idea what is going on. Within that guide, look especially at the last main section, called "Begin using PT4"

If that's not what you're looking for, or doesn't answer your questions properly; I'm sure you could just do a google search for something like "PT4 tutorials", or some such.

Maybe check out some videos on both before you decide. Both PT4 and HM2 have free trials, so can't hurt to check them out.

If you plan to play with any kind of regularity, then i 'd say it would be a great investment. From using a HUD , to reviewing your stats, leakfinding, replayer, etc. And just keeping track of your progress via graphs.

i've tried both, and personally prefer HM2. I like the Apps that are all contained in one program like Notecaddy, Leakbuster, Tablescanner, etc. But really is personal preference.

I am installing PT right now as we speak and will try it before long and will keep posted about my experience.
But, it would be much easier for you to do some research, on their web site have to have some kind of forum or on another forum, like this great CC forum, and try to get familiar with the software.
All of those software are tools, to help you to master your own game, if you follow and learn it to proper use them, and also review your own weakness, you will probably get better .... but again, that's just my $.02 on this... :)

For the most part. AFAIK, PT4 will do all the leg work. You might get asked to verify folders or some such. It will collect the hands as they come in, do all the magic stuff it can do via a database, and store that info. After a certain number of hands it will provide you with a HUD, on the table. PT4 was a snap to install, for me that was it's most impressive feature.

I decided not to upgrade tho, too many changes and for me useless stats.

There is a very old version of PT2 that does stud, all varieties, not sure if they still sell it, or support it, but my guess is they wouldn't need much support, it is, like I said, an old program and the assumption is that it works fine.

Beyond the trial version, the Omaha parts of PT4 would cost you extra.

If I/you were/are just starting out, PT4 will give you what you want.

As for tourney's vs ring. Being a tourney guy, I found that the best way for me to use the HUD was to limit the HUD to that particular game. Done via the HUD, it would be a rolling hand count.

Since I have been playing more off games, O/O8/and the studs, I am not worried that I lost my dbase when my Hard Drive crashed last week.
