yeah same for me

ScreenHunter 148 Jan 02 1857

same thing happened about a year ago and it was a nightmare trying to find a link that worked.

im with mootso, equilab is very good, can also save different ranges for different positions.....dont think you could do that on stove...

slice is also a decent one, but you need to pay to get all the full features...same things with flopzilla etc...

I'll have to check mine when I get home, but if you have the very last version released that was hard to come by a few months back, then it probably affected me as well. It might be able to RE/hack to avoid the date check, but I've mostly moved on to other equity calculators now, including:
  • Combonator is my favorite. I bought the full version, but IIRC the free one includes basic equity calcs.
  • I also bought Flopzilla, but it's overkill for simple equity calcs and I never really learned to use it well.
  • I also have Slice, but haven't used it much either as I favor Combonator
  • PT4 includes equity calcs now; however I've not used it much since my go-to tracker is still HM2 (and maybe HM2 has one now as well, I keep it updated but honestly haven't paid much attention to the latest features).
  • I probably have another one or two that I'm forgetting
  • And I have a few on my iPhone that I can access from anywhere
If I think about it I'll take a stab at hacking Stove, but not sure the effort will be worthwhile given the better alternatives (IMO) that are out there.

Yes, but that approach sucks for a lot of other reasons. Which makes continuing to use Stove an even less attractive option.

Seriously, it was the bomb in it's day, although it was really sloppily written, and there are numerous better choices today. Still not sure why the author didn't release it to open-source, but being written in Delphi I wouldn't really want to be maintaining it myself. Had it been written in C/C++ or Java, a lot of folks (myself included) would be more inclined to improve and maintain it.

Gotta move it all the way back to 2003 since that's the last year thst the days line up with our current calendar. Problem is you can't browse the web very much after that since all the security certificates will be outdated. Pokerstove is officially dead.

Yeah most people had the earlier release which expired a year or so ago, but there was a later release that a lot of folks never upgraded to before the original download link died, and it was a bit hard to find. I'm assuming that's the one that has expired again.

Honestly I'm not sure why the author even coded an expiration in it anyway given there was no registration or purchase involved, unless maybe he was one day planning to go commercial with it and wanted to time-bomb all the free copies out there. Which might also explain why he hasn't open-sourced it, but then again he's missed the boat because there are better solutions already so he'd have a lot of work to do make it a worthwhile commercial venture now.

Ha! PokerStove has been open-sourced, it looks like the GitHub project was created 3 days ago. :)

https://github.com/andrewprock/pokerstove

And it turns out it was written in C++ (could have sworn it was Delphi), so that's even better news. And it looks like there's a linux and OSX build as well (was never available before AFAIK?). I might have to play around with this later as a fun side project.

Did you try to delete all the local and roaming data before installing fresh version? Might need to look into removing registry keys too.

Unfortunately the Git source I linked to is only for the core libraries and command-line utilities. The Windows GUI source code is not yet released. Apparently they're deciding on which license to use, and are pointing people to the (now expired) Win32 installer for version 1.24.

HOWEVER I was able to disassemble the executable, find the date check, and make a 1-byte patch to make it expire in 2047. I've uploaded the patched PokerStove.exe to my Dropbox account, the link is below. Just replace your existing PokerStove.exe in your PokerStove install directory (you may want to rename the old one to back it up). Should you ever reinstall with the installer, you'll have to copy this over again.

In case someone is wary (as it is advisable), I have checked the file from dmorris68, it seems legit and clean.

Thanks dmorris68!

LOL, yeah if somebody is paranoid, download it and run a binary file comparison. You'll find a 1-byte difference at offset 0x00001c87, 0xDD changed to 0xFF.

I use FLopzilla, and the Ace Poker Drills Equity Calculator. Flopzilla isn't free, but the other one is. Both are better than Pokerstove imo.
