Hi all
I downloaded tournament shark 7 day trial and found it quite a help. My questions are, Can you get tracking software for free? In your opinion what is the best software to use? Are they all similar?
Is it a common to use this kind of software and more to the point am I breaking the law?

You can get a free trial for poker tracker 3. Poker tracker or holdem manager are the better onces. I think holdem manager is better then poker tracker 3.

Tomh is right in that both PT and HEM offer free trials - I'll leave it up to you to determine which is best for you (although persoanlly I use HEM). Try them both and make up your own mind. They are both permitted on most of the main sites and I think you'll find will take your game to the next level. You can even obtain them for free if you sign up for sites through their websites although you will have to deposit real money and play for a specified time before you get the full license (as you can with other software such as the one you're using).

If you're going to go with tracking software, make it HEM or PT3. And don't go the route that Tangerine talks about with getting it for free. If you are going to sign up through an affiliate site, sign up for one where you will receive rakeback as it will pay you back way more than the cost of the tracking software in the long run. You will not get anything that is even close to being as good in comparison when it comes to software like this for free and it is one piece of software where I can truly say it will pay for itself, given you actually know how to play poker. ;)

I disagree with this. If you are going to make your home one of the major sites, then free software through a minor site is great.

I got HEM by playing on NoiQ Poker (100 VIP points done while making E100 on micro limit) once complete I removed the software as it was such a poor site, volume wise.

I also have Tournament Indicator, I signed up to Everest for this and having played through 900 flopped tournament hands, played at $0.04 entry STTs (calling every hand pre flop), once again not great traffic and lobby/software poor, so uninstalled that too.

I now have $200 worth of software and I am actually in profit from playing too :)

Personally I think both Gent and Absoluthamm are correct :) . In stating that you could get it free it wasn't necessarily a recommendation, just explaining the option that you have. If you intend playing primarily on one site and at sufficient volume then Hamm is right as rakeback will become critical to you but I also like Gents approach and you can even use this method to have an extended trial of both the site and the software.

Unfortunately we here in the US can't play on all the sites and only the major ones are available to us. If there was a minor site where we could play on and get HEM or PT3 for free I would. Consider yourself lucky. As we would have to do it in becoming an affiliate or straight out buy it if we don't already have an account on major site. It will pay for itself in the long run.
