I've logged about 20k hands on Poker Tracker 4. I really love it... It's cool. However, now that I've got a relatively (small) decent sample to analyze I've realized that I don't know anything about it.

I've used it until now basically for one purpose. Identifying player styles with the HUD. I can spot the tags and the nits from a mile away. But what should be analyzing in order to make a meaningful positive impact on my game?

What are the most useful tools for you? What do you find isn't very useful? Do you spend a lot of time analyzing individual hands? How do you sort through all this data? Is there a God? Will Cuba Gooding ever make Snow Dogs 3?

A good player will not need a HUD to spot the TAGs or the NITs from a mile away, this is easy to see from basic observation. Instead a good player uses the HUD to remember their opponent's playing tendencies, such as frequency of 3Betting, of frequently they 5Bet when facing a 4Bet, how they act differently in and out of position, and how they typically play on the flop - fit or fold or do they take a more creative line.

We always advise start using PT4 by reviewing your own stats in our reports, once you have a good understanding of how stats work together, THEN start using the HUD. The Statistics > Overview > Position Report is the most valuable, now start adding filters to see how you play in specific situations like 3Bet pots - then review each position differently. Pay attention to your late position and blind play, this is typically where players win or lose the most.

Everyone loses from the blinds, the goal is to lose less from the blinds - that is why we include the stats My C Blind and My C W/O Blind. My C Blind is the total amount posted in the blind converted to "My Currency". My C w/o Blind is total amount won from the blind position after removing the amount paid in the blind. The ultimate goal for all players is to lower the losses in the blinds, that is what separates the truly greats from the average players.
