Just a general question: why are some tools & huds allowed & some forbidden to use?

Aren't they all the same? Meaning: tracking hand history & displaying stats for yourself and your opponents?

I'm sorry if this is a dumb question & I'm missing the obvious here...

HUD is allowed, because it is your record.
but some tools like you may let computer auto play, it is more like a bot.
therefore it is not allowed anywhere.

No poker room allows "bots"

Most of the tools that are not allowed rely on a pooled or shared database of hands, not just that hands you've personally played versus a particular opponent. This give you an unfair advantage over someone who may be relying on only the information they have from the hands you have played versus them.

Most sites will have a list in their support regarding what is legal.

Typically, it will be illegal if:

- you're using a shared database/datamining.
- it tells you how to play
- it acts for you (this is a bot, not like table ninja, where you use hotkeys to act)

^^^ What s/he said.

For example, see here for a fairly comprehensive discussion of what is and isn't allowed at pokerstars. Other sites may not be as specific as Stars is here, but the same concepts apply to most others.
