I am trying to figure out what real time odds calculator to use. I have checked out

  • Magic Holdem
  • Calculatem Pro
  • Holdem Genius
  • Holdem Indicator
  • Holdem Inspector

It's some jungle and since they are not that cheap I'd like some input on what you guys use and why.

For the record - I'm new to online poker (and to poker) but I have actually managed to almost double my money and finished 2nd in my only tournament within my first 10 days. I have been using Magic Hodem mostly but I started checking out Calculatem and Holdem Genius. They seem to be the same thing skinned differently - en their websites are quire equal.

I play at pokerstars which means the calculator must work there - and work real time :)

Thanks in advance.

I've never heard of any of them. I use Pokerstove, which is free, but I don't know whether it does what you are referring to.

Also have no experience with these programs you mentioned.
I also have Pokerstove, but I guess this is not what you are looking for, bevause you are talking of working real time with Stars.

Better check stars TOS before you use anything like this. Chances are you are violating TOS, and if caught its bye bye BR and lifetime ban.

I actually did check and all they are all accepted - except from holdem inspector. I am not going to sue that one I guess.

http://www.pokerstars.com/poker/room/prohibited/ - this shows that the 4 first ones are allowed.

OK, I had no idea if your stuff was allowed or not, but a lot of people naively use stuff and get screwed cause of not checking. Make sure thay are allowed while stars is running, but you probably did that already.

GL.

And, no, sorry, I dont use anything like that - I use HEM and thats it while playing - so I cant help you with your OP question.

I sometimes use tornament indicator and find it pretty easy to use and to understand. I got mine free by getting so many points at partypoker but to be honest, you do spend a few quid getting your points, so buying it direct might be a better option.

None of them.
Just don't see much value in them tbh.

FWIW, I think spending a lot of time reviewing hands and using pokerstove or the like to calculate odds and trying to get to the point where you have a rough grasp off odds integrated in your thinking. Its ok if your odds are 67.155 fave and you say "Im around 70% here" or whatever.

The more you review and calculate after games, the better you get at doing it off the cuff, which frees your mind - and time in between hands - for gathering other important information, such as how others play certain hands, what their ranges are etc.........

Its old thread but I would like to add my views :

I tried almost all the software mentioned in the allowed list on pokerstars site.
Best among them was Holdem Indicator and MagicHoldem and I purchased both.

But amongst two my favorite is Magicholdem. It gives lot of helpful information. Its more than a calculator. I feel its like a personal coach because it explains to you why you should do this and that. I have been using it since 2009 i.e almost 5 years now
