It's not purely a tracking software. It's a poker data-miner that creates a huge database of online players and displays pertinent statistics to you, the cheater.

Cheater?

Yes, most sites, and especially the reputable ones, consider large scale data-mining and the selling of databases (which is what this really is) to be cheating and will ban you from their site if they detect the program on your computer.

If you want to fairly analyze your play and the play of your opponents, get PokerTracker or Hold Em manager.

So the difference between software like this and poker tracker is that they keep a central database of all hands, whereas with poker tracker it is only analysing hands that you were on the table for?

If I was to open poker tracker and run a table that I was not sitting at, would it then be analysing all of the players there, or would it ignore hands unless I am part of it? If the first assumption is correct, then if I was to leave my poker account running all night with maximum tables open, but not sitting at any of them so that it was privy to all of those players, that would be considered cheating as well?

I am not considering doing this at all, just curious as I have trouble seeing the difference between these 3 pieces of software.

It is not accurate on most sites therefore a waste of money. It has been said it is illegal, however the poker edge homepage lists the sites which is about all of them that accept it.
Like I said it does not work and is a waste of money.

This.
And even thou some sites allow it, the big ones(FTP,PS) strictly forbid it.

Yes, you could do that, but according to pokerstars terms of service it is cheating, as data mining at tables you're not playing at is not allowed. You could do it; maybe you'd get away with it, maybe not.

Sites like PokerStars and FullTilt have a list of forbidden software, and data miners like Poker Edge are on that list. If those sites detect it on your computer - and apparently they'll do that - they will admonish you and possibly close your account.

The PokerEdge software has a work-around. They say to open PokerEdge first, then open your poker client from poker edge and you can't be detected. I imagine the sites keep trying, and Poker Edge tries to stay ahead of them. An arms race. But why do it if you're at a site that doesn't allow it? Why not honor the rules and the spirit of the game where you play? If you don't like it, play somewhere else. I personally have no sympathy for people who get busted violating TOS then whine about how unfair it is.

Those sites forbid it, but for some reason are listed at 1 and 2 on their homepage that support it. It is not true.

What does PokerEdge do that Poker tracker doesnt?

Poker Edge keeps a large hh database on a central server so when you sit down to play you might already have 10K hands on an opponent that you've never personally played before.

I have used PE when I first started playing online at bodog. It wasn't, and still isn't as far as I know, illegal there. When it worked, it was fine for having lots of stats available immediately, but it was frequently broken and pretty expensive (it's a subscription type service). There is another problem (other than most sites banning the program) and that is that you can't use it to find problems in your own game. You can't go back and use it to review hands or find leaks, it's just simply there to provide you with stats on villains you've never played before.

Even if it were 100% legal on all sites PT3 and HEM are vastly superior products, even if you have to gather hands the old fashion way.

I've been wondering about PE as well. Tried the trial version on AP (I think its allowed there). It read that every single one of my opponents had a 0% fold big blind to steal, obviously a terrible error.

Tracking Softwares Downside

Hand tracking softwares are great at providing you with valuable game data, but the statistics they provide are often not used fully by the overwhelming majority of players.
