Today I received my Leak Buster license (my great prize from winning the CC Christmas songwriting contest) and WVH wisely* suggested I post my impressions of the software.

Day One:
I've had the Standard trial version for a while and thought it gave me a good sense of what LB could do, but clearly it's just a first taste. I am very excited to get the opportunity to use the full version. If you don't already know this, LB is for cash game leak analysis. Standard version is for micro stakes up to 50NL; there's a Pro version for higher cash stakes.

I have run the software analysis on my PT4 database of almost 150K hands (I don't think it took very long -- I clicked Run Complete Analysis and then took the dog out for walk. It was done by the time I got back).

First thing I want to check is if there is a filter for date/number of hands so that I can run this on only my hands from the past year. I'm curious if my grades and stats from LB will change with the changes I've made/ studying I've done over the past year.

I'll be looking it over for the rest of this evening but not sure how much more time I'll have for it before next weekend.

First impression, easy to install, easy to run the analysis, interface looks very logical and it makes sense so far.

FYI: I'm playing 6max cash microstakes on Carbon (4/10 NL, small little forays into 25NL that don't usually end well).

*It never hurts to be very, very nice to the forum moderators. And it really is a good suggestions.

Nice. I have it for PT4 and HM2 as well. I've gotten quite a bit of use out of the software.

They have changed the interface recently, so i think it is easier to find now, i stumbled on it by accident when messing with the different views. But there is an area down towards the bottom of the page on "Step 1" where it mentions LB Manual, Forums, and Members Area. If you go to the Members area, there are some workshop videos in there on how to get the most out of LB, exploiting opponents, etc. Some pretty good additional video stuff in there.

Good luck!

Thanks. I did find the forums already and I think I even saw something you posted.

On the frustrating side, I'm experiencing lots of technical issues.
  • I can't seem to upgrade my version (despite a popup that tells me an upgrade is available).
  • I don't see any way to run LB from PT4 (and maybe you aren't supposed to).
  • The system is crashing on me repeatedly.
  • Whenever I click somewhere to see a hand example I get an error box that there was an error loading the hand.
  • The menu has a Report Bug option but it gives me an error whenever I try to send the bug report.
  • The user guide is really for HEM, even though the title page says it's for PT as well.
On the very important plus side, Tech Support has been responsive and I'm confident that they'll help me figure out what's going on with my version.

Maybe I need to uninstall and load again. I didn't reinstall after I won the prize because I already had the trial version. I just entered my registration code and it unlocked the full version.

Howdy... so I've been working with the development team on your issue. At first no one, including myself could re-produce what you were seeing, then we updated to the latest PT4 and bam. Wasn't anticipating PT to make significant DB changes at all. There whole position has been about waiting patiently and getting all kinks out before release. But literally there are tons of changes in this latest release and you happened to hit the perfect storm of getting it probably day or 2 before this change over, since we are just now getting other reports from other customers.

Any ways, it will get all worked out. It's still a new product on both sides LB for PT and PT4. But it will get resolved. Just unfortunate timing, and was expecting PT's database structure to be more stable at this point.

The DB structure is very stable, but we do make occasional small changes. The changes we made on December 16th in 4.05.9 BETA were improvements due to the requests of our users, we unified the stakes for all fast table games so users who play the same stakes on RUSH and ZOOM (or Fast Poker, or Fast Forward) can review their results as a single stake.

There will be more database changes in the future as well, we are always improving, the database format is fluid and will be revised when necessary to improve the user experience in PokerTracker 4.

It should be noted that we removed the former "stable" version of PokerTracker 4, we are preparing to stop using our former stable/beta nomenclature for releases once the current development fork is completed.

Edit: Guess it was actually minor change on their side I'm being told.

nabmom, can you try re-downloading from http://pokerleakbuster.com and re-install. This way we can make sure you have a completely clean copy, and if there are any issues we can address it knowing you have the latest and greatest.

Ha, we must have been posting at the same time. But ya, I don't think it was as major as I was initially told, but there are some changes that effect us. It happens, it's software.

I'll reload and reinstall.

No worries about the bumps in the road. I do understand that software can be a moving target, but it would be easier if LB and PT4 were more in sync.

Kudos for the speedy response of the support team. They are not leaving me hanging.

Unfortunatly LB finds out when PT4 is updated the same way all of our users do - when it's released. This because we don't provide access to our alpha development versions to anyone outside of our company, frankly I personally do not know when a new release is scheduled until a few hours before it is made available. Also I should note that we do not operate on a fixed schedule, instead we release updates once they are ready - and as quickly as we possibly can once that occurs. Although our policy has many benefits to the majority of our users, there is also a downside to this strategy as you have pointed out. In the near future we will be launching our new release path, hopefully this will help solve some of this confusion in the future.

In short - Don't blame LB or PT for not being in sync, blame the system we use which is designed to benefit the majority of our users by rushing out a release as soon as it is done. Alas there is no perfect solution... all we can do is aim to help a majority. Kudos to LB for getting out a fix so quickly!

Thanks. We do talk to some of the guys including Steven, but understandably, we're not going to be told when every change comes out. Sometimes this happens, andthere have been times we've been told ahead of time. It's not a perfect system, and never will be because they don't know how every change will effect us since they don't have our source code.

That being said, I think both teams handle the ever changing poker sites and issues pretty rapidly and efficiently. Some things could always be better, but overall things get handled in a prompt manner.

Does a user guide exist for use with Poker Tracker? The current Administration Guide version 3.0 is written for HEM (even though the cover says PT also).

Is there a way to run LeakBuster via PT4? Or are they not integrated and I run LeakBuster as a stand-alone that just accesses the PT database?

I use the HM2 version right now, and Leakbuster works in HM2 as an App. But i'm pretty sure for PT3/PT4 it is just a stand alone program.

Leak Buster for PT3/4 is separate, not integrated like it is for holdem manager.

I think a bulk of the issues you're having are on your system. It would be nice to know what you're running because one of the developers seems to think it's a resource/system issue. I mean switching between tabs, you shouldn't even see pop ups like you're mentioning unless the system is really slow.

That being said we're going to look into it more. HM version of LB has zero issues. We have a long relationship with them. LB for PT, since PT4 is still new, is bound to run into some things. Like I know merge hands just changed again, so those need to be updated.

Thanks, John. I have already sent the developer my system specs. I'm also going to send him some of my hand history files, because I can't get them to load in LB. I can see them in LB and then using the description can find them in PT4 and replay them there.

Ok, cool. Ya we'll figure out the issue. Look like merge made another change recently, so should be a pretty simple fix.

Sad to say that it looks like LB isn't compatible with Merge hands. Not a real problem, because the analysis part of LB works fine as does the tutorial content. It just means that (hopefully only for the time being) I can't double-click in LB to pull up a replayer of a hand. I have to find the hand in PT4. This is somewhat frustrating to not have the benefit of the replayer. But this and HUD software can be attempts to chase moving targets since sites are updating and reconfiguring all the time.

In a way this is cool because it helps me determine if I'm setting my filters correctly in PT4.

I think the analysis is spot on, and it is focusing me on leaks I didn't know I have. I ran the full analysis, got a lot of feedback, and am now trying to do the following:
1) look at the biggest leaks according to LB for an overview of how I'm playing
2) Pick ONE leak and focus on it for now. If I try to fix too much too fast it is unlikely to work
3) look at many hand examples that show that leak in my play
4) view videos/tutorials from LB and from a training site I subscribe to and try to understand the leak and how to play those situations more optimally.
5) play poker and try to improve.
6) Rinse and repeat.

Thanks for your feedback. Glad you're enjoying it.

At some point soon it may be compatible with Merge again. It will still analyze the data from any site, just re-playing merge hands in the re-player isn't going to work right now.
