A few people on this forum use LB, myself included. Haven't seen anyone say it hasn't helped yet. It requires a huge time investment, but yes, it's helped.

LB

Sly,

I'm new to HEM and trying to find the holes in my game. How does LB help and why is it so time consuming?

On another note, do you have an idea how to download instant replay videos so they could be local on your computer??

thanks
steve

Check out HEM's website for more detailed info - better yet, download HEM, a free trial for LB is part of the overall HEM trial. The LB trial does not include all the functionality, however (for obvious reasons).

In a nutshell, LB compares your statistics against "optimal" players, where "optimal" is defined as what winning players are doing. There are a large number of data point comparisons, from basic stuff like VPIP/PFR/3bet etc. to some detailed stuff by position etc.

LB also provides a number of suggested strategies surrounding a variety of topics, and includes a number of filters that you can use to check your performance in HEM against specific types of situations.

It's time consuming because, if you're like most players, LB will identify several potential/actual leaks, and understanding how to resolve/address those takes a lot of study. Fixing one leak may produce another problem (oooh, I'm not 3betting enough, I better start - oops, I'm losing money when I 3bet, what am I doing wrong???), since your play as a whole is impacted when you change something dramatically.

edit: When I was considering buying the module, absoluthamm recommended I not do so unless I was willing to commit the time. I completely agree w him and make the same recommendation to anyone else.

Try out these links - they assume you already know a little bit about the stats, but won't take too long to pick up what's going on.

VPIP = Voluntarily Put $ in the Pot. Percentage of the time that preflop you called, bet, limped, raised, 3bet, whatever, but you put money in the pot.

PFR = Preflop Raise %. Percentage of the time that preflop you raised rather than limped or called.

The little icons are for "autorating" - there are rules that you can configure to quickly identify different player types. Whale, for example, usually is configured as very high VPIP/low PFR (i.e., limps alot preflop), Rock is usually very low VPIP/high PFR (i.e., plays very few hands preflop but raises them when he does).

by instant replay video, are you talking about a game you just played? If yes, this is free and you can convert your games and replay then immediately after playing. http://www.universal-replayer.net/
You must make sure that your HH is being saved to your computer, different sites have different methods, usually in Preferences you mush have "Save HH to HD" or similar selected. I am HEM ignorant so cant help you there (but am working on it...) Sly, as you have seen above, and others here have good knowledge about this, .
