Hi, I've spent two days trying to download postgres and I've never installed it before and its already asking me a password as one of the first steps of the installation process. I've spent two researching what the password could be, ive tried putting my own password, ive tried putting in suggested passwords by articles ive read. Ive even tried changing the password like some articles entitle. Its gotten to the point where its really aggravated me where I just want to throw my computer at the wall. Can someone please give me some insight as to how to install this postgres without ever installing it before and requiring a password to install it.

Thanks. :(

lmao, im l-l close to giving up myself. But i really want to keep records of my gameplay. Let me go through what I've done. I've tried removing all files that postgres exists on my computer. Ive tried using comand promt to remove net user. Ive tried using comand promt to change net user password. Ive tried every freaking password everyones suggested. Ive gone to computer>manage>user and fix it there. Ive tried reinstalling. The last thing I havnt done is literally break my laptop from this overly complicated installation process ive ever encountered. I mean come on... ive never installed this thing before and its asking for a password thats incorrect? Im probably better off making my own charts. lol

Have you tried uninstalling everything, deleting anything that didn't get uninstalled(sometimes settings files don't get deleted when uninstalling) and then reinstalling? Unless you put in something without knowing it, there shouldn't be an issue with the password you're entering.

Yea, I've gone through the progam files in the C drive as well as folders in the start menu, download folder, postgres folder. I've never downloaded it before so this is the first attempt installing it and its asking for a password.

If you successfully delete the postgres user:
net user postgres /delete
..., it will accept any password the next time you install it.

Yeah, for a clean install, the password the PosgreSQL installer is prompting you for is the one you want to set to be the default password, so it's whatever you want.

Oh, and hi Roy. 3 posts and it's the first time I've seen you. Nice of you to join us. ;)

I just installed HM2 trial yesterday. I got the same problem. Followed al the Help and still wasn't able to connect.
I finally uninstalled postgres, and then uninstalled the newly installed HM2, then reinstalled HM2, and during the install, postgres was reinstalled, (stated it was required) and, if I'm not mistaken, it was a different version than the one previously on the puter, and all seemed to work from that point on.
Now, I have to figure out how to use the dang thing. LOL

Install it to port 5433.
When installed, is the service running?

Which Operating System, Firewall, and Anti-Virus are you using?
