Hi all,

I have been reading a lot about poker trackers...is this legal to use on 888 or pokerstars?

I think this is kind of an unfair advantage to be using software to analyze a player, no? what do you think?

Personally, I think that this is not an honest game, and in general I also think that if the opponent uses any auxiliary programs there, then he is simply or weak player or wants to catch fish without labor, from the pond. With such players, it's just not interesting to play, it's some sort of sludge obtained instead of a game. ;)

I feel the same way, that it isnt honest.. Dont the poker sites have a way to monitor if someone is using them and then stop it? Or do they allow it?

888 and stars allow them, while some other rooms don't let to use them or limit their functionality.

No, and most sites allow it.

HUDs and databases are not dishonest. It's part of how online poker is played. Online poker does not = live poker. It's a different game. Bad players are still going to be bad players w/ a HUD. You have to interpret data and know how to apply it.

The people who are anti-hud seems to be mostly feeling based players, and they struggle with taking advantage of the mathematical side of poker imho. At least that's what I've read over the last 12 years online about pro and anti HUD users.

HUDs are a great way to learn about your game, and a more realistic way to be able to track players you've played against, since you face so many in online games. Live, you don't play as many hands and players, so it's much easier to mentally note and know how someone plays and their tendencies. This isn't the case online. You'd be able to do this in some high stakes games, but games w/ high turnover and large player pools, it would be impossible, so HUDs fill this gap appropriately.

That's my 2 cents.

Thank you John for such an interesting and useful, at any rate for me article. I will definitely take this article myself on a note. :top:

You need to play the players tendencies, a HUD helps you understand how the opponents think. It is till only part of the story but but an insight that helps you plan a hand.
I highly recommend PT4.

A HUD is a good tool to use but not something to be relied apon. Your brain is your best weapon to use not some tool.

It's important to note that a HUD does not give even the tiniest hint at how to play vs an opponent. It is not a substitute for being a well-rounded, thinking player.

That's a given, a HUD will only give you stats, its up to you to interpret them.

That's why we have session stats :D

There's an App for that. Take a look at tools like the "Leak Tracker" tab in PT4. Not perfect, but the results from it may give you ideas.

I completely agree with both statements. Part of being/becoming a good player is doing hand history reviews. Any time I have a questionable hand, I tag it in my HUD software for later review. Then I can put the hand through equity calculation, do detailed range analysis for villains vs my own range, and see how ICMIZER or CardRunnersEV see EV for a particular action.

Reviewing our HUD's database statistics for potential leaks can be a very enlightening exercise. Pay close attention to hands and positions that give you problems (poor BB/100, for example) and evaluate what you're doing wrong. You can filter against positions, hands, players, etc., to really drill down and find spots where you're losing EV.

It's legal and if you play three tables or more, you do need it.

Wow! It's a whole world I didn't know about. Is there are difference between a HUD and a poker tracker? Do you need them both?
Thanks!

PokerTracker4 is a COMPANY NAME of one of the main HUD competitors.

DriveHUD, PokerTracker4 and HoldemManager2 all offer both tracking and HUD services.

DriveHUD dominates the ability to customize your HUD, PT4 lets you somewhat customize HUD but dominates in graph analysis options (but you need a lot of self-knowledge to know how to do it), HM2 dominates ease of use and beauty of graphs (yes beauty).

Jivaro is a pure HUD and is the one I would recommend to anyone looking to pick up a HUD straight from no experience with them and instantly use it with ease. JivaroHUD is my HUD of choice but if you want tracking on top of it, then the three dominant competitors of that I have just mentioned.

All three are just as good as each other and depends on your personal preference on style

Jivaro is an expensive waste of money and time which locks you in to using solely pokerstars which is why pokerstars make their pros use it on twitch. Joe bloggs who doesn't know about huds see them use it on twitch and then buy it and find they can only use it on pokerstars so only play on Pokerstars. when they bust their deposit they can still use it on play money.
