I downloaded PT4 for the first time got the free trial only to realize... I dunno what I'm doing at all..

I started up a STT excited about finally having a HUD and no HUD.

I couldn't get it to work, I googled and youtubed and thought I did everything right but I'm assuming not.

Even if I did get it working, I still don't know a good PFR or VPIP 3 Bet % from a bad one

I figured I can't be the only one whose a HUD dummy so I figured I'd start a thread for us that have questions that don't exactly belong in the PT4 support thread

All HUD/ Tracking Software questions welcomed here PT4 HEM and what ever else.

PokerTracker has tons of support guides available including a "Getting Started" guide which covers all of the basics you need to get up and running. On our website click Support > Guides.

Additionally PokerTracker 4 contains 3.5 hours of built in tutorial videos. These videos are designed for new users such as yourself, anywhere you have a question in our application click the Green [?] found on that page, the Flash Video Replayer will appear for that topic.

Lastly we suggest you spend some time learning about expected stat ranges by using LeakTracker, which is a free feature included in PokerTracker 4. LeakTracker compares your database to typical ranges of winning players, the enclosed videos also help you determine how to adjust your play to meet the ranges displayed when necessary.

TY I found the videos I shall get some popcorn and start watching lol..

Also I'd like to add if any 1 doesn't have PT4 if you DL the free trial at Pokertracker.com they are currently having a Sweepstakes where they pick a winner to enter the EPT plus $2,000 Euros for travel.

I know by telling this I make the chance of me getting picked less lol but the chance of getting some one from Cardschat goes up slightly =)

If you already have it I believe you can enter via mail

Lol, I'm right there with you!! It took forever just get postgresql to d/l and install properly and then to figure out how to get the hud to show up. I've had the trial a week and that's all I've had the patience to figure out. I'm sure I'll wind up buying it because I need a HUD and the only other HUD for mac is poker copilot. I've done the trial for poker copilot and it was easier to get started, but I think that's because it doesn't do nearly as much.

Just the thread I was looking for s3mper!
I have recently moved to cash after previously played s&gos, using sharkscope, mostly to analyse my own stats and assess whether oposition were profitable or not.
However after reading up and visiting here I have realised how important a more detailed HUD is.
I have read the poker tracker reply to this and am going to download it and watch the videos.
I have a question that I was weary of asking because it might appear stupid, but as this a HUD for dummies thread, here goes..
Will the tracker have details of all my , and my opponents play from the past? Like sharkscope does... Or does it only record info from the point at which I install it? Also does it only record opponents stats from their game play where I have been on their table? Or all their play?

Me too! Just downloaded free poker tracker yesterday

Why don't their stats always show up directly below their name? It's usually close, sometimes farther away, sometimes closer to a completely different opponent...

Also, I have a hard time seeing their stack size and how much they bet...is there a trick, or do you just get used to that eventually?

Ps: I too, know I'll just end up buying it since I'm a Mac user. Dumb question: when I do buy is it good forever, or just for a year or something? Because if it expires I'll wait for my 30 days to be up first. If it's good forever I'll just buy it now so that annoying "trial version" red box will go away from the center if the table

I have the same questions as above, is there an expiration date on the software? I am definitely interested in investing in one of these and just want to make sure I'll know what I;m doing and it is worth my money.

The license is good until the next major version, which is typically from like 4.x to 5.x.

The software works by taking the hand histories from the sites and importing the gameplay and then compiling the stats based on what happened. It captures your hands and the hands of everyone else at your table who played while you were playing. You cannot capture information from tables where you aren't playing or from hands that your opponents play on other tables (where you aren't sitting).

If you have downloaded/saved hand histories from before you install the HUD, you can import those as well. Worth mentioning is that you have to enable saving of hand histories at each site or else you won't have them on your computer to be loaded into the HUD.

Note that not all sites are supported by the HUDs. For example, PT4 (and perhaps HEM) doesn't support the new Lock. Bovada also isn't supported directly, you have to purchase a third party hand converter that will import the hands for you.

Hope this helps.

There is some configuring of the displays that you need to do. You need to specify your preferred seat at the poker site and also set the properties in the HUD to indicate what preferred seat you are using. That should help with stats not being near the correct name.

There is a support thread for PT4 here on Cardschat (there may also be one for Holdem Manager but I use PT4 so I'm just not familiar with what it has here). PT4 also has a great user forum on their site.

As far as stack size and bet size goes, I don't rely on my HUD for that information, I use the poker site interface to see that.

If I'm not understanding this correctly, please post a screen shot of your table and perhaps we can better help you figure out how to configure your setup.

I figured it out...you have to click the green "Poker tracker" chip at top of table then click "unlock layout" then you can move stuff around so it's closer to where you want it.

Never use the .net client. Use the .com client, and PT4 will work with play money games there. HM2 will not work with play money games, however. There is no reason to ever use the .net client, even for US players.

The .net client is crippled in several ways, not the least of which is it doesn't save hand histories, which is required for any tracker to work.

Thanks! I didn't know that about .net vs .com I know it seems silly to care... But I have a huge play money account there (won not purchased!) and there are some decent players in the expensive buy in tourneys....

Due to the holidays we are behind in responses. Lets hope this helps.

We have a large full time support team to help users set up PokerTracker for the first time, and we provide over 3.5 hours of tutorial videos to help you get over the initial fear. Just visit our site and click Support > Contact Us to create a support ticket - nobody gets left behind!

Please read the Site Configuration Guide for the poker room you play at. Configure Preferred Seating at the site and match this information in PokerTracker 4. Once that is do you can unlock the HUD by using the PT4 Icon at the top of the table, and reposition the HUD for each player so it matches your preference. Be sure to save your positioning so it is remembered every time you open the same table type.

We do not track betting sizes in-game. We do track stack sizes, but this is determined from the end of the last hand, it is not adjusted in-game. due to this fast folding games such as Zoom will not display stack size in blinds, and tournaments will have incorrect information when levels change.

14 day money back guarantee = no more trial message, and no risk.

Actually the license is good for the life - you bought it, you own the license. We stop supporting each version once the end of life for that version is reached, end of life is just the end of official support - you can still use it if you wish (we don't advise this, but you can continue to use PT4 at that time). For example the End of Life for PokerTracker 3 is this coming summer - 2 years after we released PokerTracker 4.

This is only part of the answer, see above for details.

This is correct. We support play money hands on the .com client, but there are no hand histories that we can import on the .net client.

Right, I worded my response poorly. The license of course is a perpetual use license, but not a lifetime upgrade license which is what I originally interpreted her question to be about.

And as you say, while the license may be perpetual and last "forever," due to the nature of sites evolving over time, older major versions will eventually not support any poker rooms and thus "die."
