If you're going to argue against the use of trackers/HUDs then that's fine, there are valid points to be made. But at least have a valid argument. Yours is silly for a number of reasons:
- Ivey has never been an online grinder. He's made far MORE money in offline games than online. By the time he played online poker, he was playing high stakes. High stakes is a very small community of low volume (by grinder standards) players who are already familiar with each other. A HUD is largely useless to them. Newbies are relatively infrequent and these guys are good enough to adjust to new players.
- Ivey is an outlier. A phenom. A prodigy. He could probably beat 95% of today's players (live or online) when he was 15 years old. You can't compare such a player to the general population when forming any observation. They are statistically irrelevant in a group observation.
- To suggest it's not okay to use a tool or technology at your disposal is equally silly. It's possible for a master craftsman to build a house from the ground up using nothing but hand tools. Is that what all the builders should be doing? And if they don't then they're not worthy of being called a builder? We can get from point A to point B on feet, horseback, and bicycles -- do we really need automobiles? After all, that's just a transportation crutch, right? My great-grandfather got along just fine without running water and electricity, so why the hell does everyone expect it today? Your argument makes about as much sense as any of those.
I could go on, but it's tiring after awhile to keep having this same debate with new waves of people who just learned of the existence of poker software and have no clue of how it works and what the true advantages are, yet have a high and mighty opinion of the damage it does to the game, or it's a crutch, or HUD players can't possibly win without one, etc.
Most good players use a HUD, including the vast majority of the top online players who earn 6 and 7 figures playing poker. I can absolutely 1000% guarantee that you can take their HUD away and they will still wipe the floor with any you who think a HUD is a crutch.
