I like being able to analyze my hand history and find leaks in my own game, but I think HUDs are basically cheating.

What do you guys think?

Hi.
It does not matter to me. I do not care.
I do not use any additional poker software. I just enjoy the game.
Good luck.

I'm against using any support software during the games, I think they bring a very big advantage, which creates injustice for recreational players who do not use software.

I used to be against it, now after switching to tournaments and seeing the same people every time I want any edge I can find. Just being able to know if your opponent is a nit or a lag is huge. For me it's like putting a face to the screen name.

Stats have been around in team sports since...like forever. Can't see a reason why they wouldn't be around in our most progressive arena of poker.

If the room forbids HUDs different story...but really it's whatever, sack up.

I think there are some lengthy discussion threads already on Cardschat in regards to this topic. Try out the search feature on the forum & you'll be pleasantly surprised.

I'm a sportsman and play for the challenge, so I don't use HUD.
It should be forbidden or at least there should be a symbol whenever someone is using a HUD against you. But I came here to play poker, I've been a database admin before, so not interesting anymore.

I think these support programs they should be prohibited, once those who are able to afford to use, can have a certain advantage over others who do not have.

They don't cost much at all. Pretty sure the main cost is a player taking the time to make the best use of one (many players can't be bothered to go through the learning process so that it actually helps them - - a.k.a. 'lazy')

I love my HUD! Personally, I don’t consider it cheating as long as it’s available for all users. While some players claim to not like the HUD, I believe they are limiting their selves by not using one. The amount of information available to us from using a HUD is ridiculous. Either you take notes on your own or you let the software do it for you, personally, I’ll stick with my HUD.

I completely agree with you, they’re super cheap considering the benefits you get from using one. I’m shocked that the majority of the people on this thread don’t use one.

Maybe that's because most ppl prefer to use their brains. imagine you win a ticket to the wsop with ALL YOUR INFO of folds to steal, hands played and whatever. You will be sitting at the table like a junkie on turkey, I swear!

Hello

Hello,

I don't pay attention to it too much. It takes my head out of the real game. The calculator is in my head although there are some important details they can give you. Best of skill to you!

I completely disagree. Many players who use HUDs effectively are using that information to help them make more informed well-thought out decisions. (key is 'thinking').

(fwiw, I own PT4 but haven't used it for a few years)

I was just saying, ppl that are used to use huds might get in trouble playing live, when they are used to use huds to make decisions.

Certain programs like equity calculators or HUDs that suggest how to play are definitely cheating during game and so they are forbidden at least in pokerstars. I fully support this. Using just a HUD that collects statistical information about the other players on the table and serves it to you is not cheating in my opinion. You can do all of this manually with pencil and sheet, notepad, spreadsheet or whatever you decide if you want and result will be the same. Software just makes that easy and as the software is available to anyone who wants to pay for it i don't think that this is cheating. There are even free HUDs to try if you don't want to pay 100$ without being sure if you will like the software.

Many people also think that using the software one person who have more money than they have buys the program and it starts to tell him how to play and beat other people. In fact using HUD is not so simple. I am still trying to make good use of holdem manager and i definitely have a lot more to learn for that to happen.

Regarding the live play - if you want to be successful during live games you should simply play enough live. Difference between live game and online is big enough to require much different approach. During live game you receive big part of the useful information by watching at people's emotions and the other by taking general notes how much they play and with what hands. During online play you can't see people's emotions and behavior so you are left with just the basic information that you can pick up from their gameplay. Having HUD here to provide you some statistics is very useful and can help you fill up some of the missing information compared with live game.

I believe that recs and players who are less serious about poker think that a HUD is a much bigger advantage than it actually is during a cash game or tournament. Still, if recreationals out there feel uncomfortable due to a certain software, I believe it should be banned in order to make them feel safer about playing and depositing online.

Now using a HUD as a study tool or an HH tracker? That's what I would consider to be invaluable about using a HUD, and not so much the stats.

I found that players who use HUD - worst. And my favourite. They don't notice if tactics of players changed already. They see statistics how opponent played before. Also have no idea how they play live.

I think they are valid, but I did not dare to buy any. I wonder if there is any free use. If anyone knows, please get in touch.

I have done this too, but if there were some free application I would use without problems, maybe an online odds indicator, but of the HUDs I do not like, they fill the screen with data.

This is true, but if all players read carefully about everything allowed, the disadvantages would be the player's own, after all they are being warned about what they can do.

There are clearly opposing camps in the argument, but I don't think it makes that much difference to me because very few people who have HUDs .use them effectively anyway. If you mix up your play it will confuse the HUD player beautifully lol
