I never used it. I'm on Bovada now and I don't think they have one for that site.

HUD is software providing real-time information about the players at your online poker table. It actually shows you the statistical tendencies of the players in real time. It will let you know how loose or aggressive your opponents are, plus more information. This will show you at a glance the tendencies of your opponents.
I never used it but if you play for any meaningful money online, where available, it is a must. It gives you information about the other players style of play. Gathering information is what poker is all about. It's how you gain an advantage over your opponents. For example, from the HUD statistics, you can tell at a glance that Player 1 is a very tight player. When he re-raises, a fold would be the best play. You may not know this without the HUD stats in front of you....
So...if you don't use it and someone else does, you are the one at a real disadvantage.

Nice to have, and on occasion what I see actually makes a decision easier or harder, but they are NOT a magic bullet.

What trackers do best is to take notes for us. They remember the hands, all of them. If you can remember hands, and take notes, you won't need a tracker. This is what you might do between hands. Update your notes for each player.

I have a HUD and also make notes heavily. That combo seems to work well enough. Good note taking takes experience though but I guess same goes for HUD usage.

I'd say ban it. Let people play with their minds, not with their mind and a computer program.

+1. What happened to the good ole days of taking notes and logs, and remembering who is fish and how they play.

I still don't understand why these are allowed and other software assists aren't.
(well I do really, it's all about commercialism).

FYI; the HUD is a bi-product of the tracking software. The tracking software remembers almost everything about every hand you play. It is a memory aid, that is all. So, a case can be made that tracking via software is a great equalizer, we (who have them) all have great memories. Now what you do with your memories is your biz, but if you are at a table I am at, you will only give me clues about how you play. The tracker will not tell me what your are wearing, but it might give me a clue about what sort of mood you are in today.

The trackers do not make decisions for us. It gives us our memories in a snapshot. Nothing more. If you are the forgetful type, and play poker without a tracker, you are my fish. But then if you can't remember at least the hands you have been involved in, with or without a tracker, then you should probably be playing a single user version of World at War.

BTW, I have been using tracking software for several years now, and in all that time, I will guess that the HUD info made a difference less than 100 times. Some will suggest that I am not using the software correctly. Perhaps, but I tend to do just fine without the software. My preferred poker (non HE, and non Omaha) is not tracked by current software.

But when I get the urge to actually analyze my game, I can not bear doing it manually (looking thru my HH's), and it is then that the true value of tracking software shines.

I do not quite understand what you said, could be clearer? As for my post, has a bug which is (I think). When published, I heard a poker professional speaking it. Viewing today, how complex it is to play poker, have certerza what he said is true.

I like using a hud merely for the purposes of tracking my own progress. At the end of the week I can go through all the hands I played for that particular week and try and see where my leaks are.

I use it to a lesser extent as a gauge of opponent play. In most cases, I will look at a few stats to determine whether or not I should go all in against a player. You have to be careful though that you have a sufficient hand history count for that particular player otherwise the player's stats could be meaningless and you would therefore be basing your decision on inaccurate information (i.e. information that does not generalize how that particular play plays over the long term).

I personally like having a record of every hand I have ever played.

The analyzing my hands I like. Someone having my stats right there easily accessible...maybe not. I don't know. I don't really play cash so I can see where this would come in handy. Since I mainly play MTT's it is more based on notes for players, remembering players, and seeing way the play while playing with them. Although, I don't have HUD never have. So I really would not even know what to do with it or what any of it means right away. Like I have no idea what they even really show or how they work.

Interestingly enough we were recently asked about live HUDs by the management of the EPT Tour (PokerTracker is an official sponsor of the pokerstars European Poker Tour). We let them know that there are already HUDs for live games, but the truth is anyone who uses a HUD for a live game misunderstands what a HUD does. A HUD is used to make an online game more like a live game, its designed to help online players remember who their opponents are. In a live game you don't need a HUD, the human brain acts as the HUD for you. Humans remember playing patterns when we can attribute these patterns to another human being, but we do not typically do this when associating a screen name. That is why the HUD is most useful for low stakes players, where as nosebleed players who play against a very small pool of opponents that they all know personally do not need to use a HUD.

Ah, so you've finally discovered the golden ticket. Shhhhh, Don't tell anyone though. Cause if everyone used Poker Tracker there would never be any losers and then who would we win money off of?
