The HUD's job is to help you remember who your opponents are, this is something you can do on your own by taking extensive notes - PokerTracker just automates this process for you. The HUD replicates the way that the human brain remembers information about your opponents, the brain is not designed to remember screen names - it remembers human characteristics like faces and voices and with this you can easily remember your opponent's playing style. Essentially the HUD makes the game more like a live game.
As you become a better player and learn more about the game you will come to realize that the HUD does not provide you with the edge you currently think you are getting, instead you will come to realize that the HUD helps improve performance. Without a HUD you can play just as good at a single table paying very close attention. With a HUD you can multitable and watch TV, it allows you to play less attention to each table.

Many of our users make this claim, we do not. Approximately 1/6th of all online poker players already use a HUD... and significantly more than 1/6th of players are losing. A HUD is not a secret weapon to winning, only skill can make you a better player - the HUD helps you be a more productive player & also helps you remember who your opponents are. High stakes players who play vs the same people every week heads up don't need a HUD.... its the low stakes players who play vs massive opponent pools that need a HUD to remember their opponents.

My personal opinion is that this type of program should not be allowed since it gives the user an unfair advantage especially over the recreational player who in most cases does not even know they exist.
Ultimately it chases those recreational players out of the game and the only way for the so called professional players that use these programs to make money is for the sites to continue to attract new recreational players.
Personally I would not use one of these programs and will only play at the micro tables where it is likely that the other players are not using them either.
If I wanted to make money by having an unfair advantage that is totally legal and promoted by the institution running it I would get into politics for my hobby.
PokerTracker is 100% legal, permitted by each site we support, and follows regulatory guidance when requested. The sites don't agree with your position. Why do you think that is? Because the majority of the players who use our software are in fact recreational players, our job is to keep people in their seats... stay more active and engaged in the game. Losing players quit, thats a fact of life... and replacing losing players is very hard. Its much easier to help those losing players stay more engaged with online poker by giving them tools that might help them lose less or slower... or maybe even someday win. Thats where our software comes into play. PokerTracker empowers players of all walks of life to stay interested in poker.
