A sneak peek:

http://www.pokersoftware.com/articles/2011/06/sneak-peek-at-holdem-manager-2.html

Now that the NDA has officially been lifted as of today, I can divulge that I've been an alpha tester since around Black Friday. Which kinda sucks since my volume and variety of games has dropped significantly as a result. But at least it was fun getting to play with some of the new features early and see how things have been polished up.

Because my volume has been much lower I've really not taken the time to exercise HM2 as much as I'd have liked, but will say that I really really like where they're taking the product. The above sneak peek does a pretty good job of covering the major changes.

A beta release is expected within weeks. I haven't seen confirmation that it will be a public, open beta, but historically both HM and PT have done so, so hopefully you can get your hands on it shortly!

You could tell that they were working on a new version if you've paid attention to the forums. Good to hear

I haven't looked back at HM1 since around June or so. I've grown to really like HM2, despite it still have some loose ends to be tied up before it's released.

Your HM2 beta license doesn't affect your HM1 license. You can always go back to HM1, you'll just need to import from archive any hands that HM2 had imported, in order to get your HM1 database up to date.

HM1 will continue to be maintained for some time, but will not get any new features and at some point will be retired, like any old software.

HM2 adds a ton of new features and performance improvements -- more than I could spell out here. The OP contains a link to a review of the alpha version from a couple of months ago. HM's site and forums will have a lot more info on it, and HM1 users can apply for the Beta and try it out.

But unless we bought our current version after May1, 2011, we still have to pay full price if we decide we want it, right? Irks me because I got the Pro version on April 13. I know, I know, very bad timing all around.

Yes, if you have HM1. Login to your account at holdemmanager.com, add your HM1 serial number to your account if it isn't already, and it *should* give you a link to request beta access. I think they then send you an email for the download. I'm not sure exactly because I was invited to be an alpha tester several months ago, so didn't have to go through this new beta application process.

They weren't letting everyone on the beta at once -- you applied and got on the list, then they let so many in at a time. Not sure if that's still the policy or not, but if you're interested you should apply soon.

The pricing hasn't been finalized, but last I heard, if you bought HM1 after May, you get HM2 for free. Otherwise, if you bought HM1 within the last year, you can get HM2 at a discount. Longer than a year, and you pay full price for HM2. So doubt you'll be paying full price if you want to upgrade.

We'll talk. :)

Seriously, I don't have a large enough sample to make anywhere close to a definitive statement. And more seriously, even if I did, I would never reveal publicly such info about one of my stellar Maverick Men. :D

Yes, they still doing it that way.

Apply for the beta in the HEM log page, then get the code by email after like a week.
