I bought PokerTracker 4 yesterday and I would appreciate any advice from more experienced players. :) It provides a lot of different stats and graphs and frankly... I´m quiet lost in it (it´s my first HUD). How to start using it? Just set up basic stats and then slowly add? Any configuration tips? I play almost exclusively Zoom on Stars and my stats resets with every new session. Can I prevent it from happening? Also I think it does not save stats on my opponents, is that possible? I only played 1200 hands on Zoom tables with HUD, but I have max 10 hands on any opponent (which is weird if I played 1000 hand session on 4 tables in pool of 400 players). My next question is about saving hand histories with PokerTracker. Did I understand correctly that PT saves my hand history on some server (so it´s not on my hardrive?). So if I want to play on my PC I will have all stats same on my PC and laptop? Or should I import those hands to one PokerTracker and there keep my records?

If you can think of any other advice or tip from times that you started using HUD, I would be very thankful. :) Thank you! :)

There are very good set up guides on the PT website. I certainly shouldn't be resetting the stats each session, there is probably something you haven't set up correctly.

For the hand histories, what happens is that you change a setting on PS so that it saves HH's to a folder on your hard-drive then PT4 imports these text files into your database. If you want to put it on another PC you just copy the folder with the HH's across and import them.

As for stats there are pre made HUDs for cash on PT4, or if you are making your own its probably best to start off simple and add. Mine is still pretty simple, I had other stuff on there but never looked at it. Its like this:

VPIP/PFR/AFQ
3bet/FoldTo3bet/Cbet/FoldToCbet
Steal/FoldToSteal/hands

Thanks macromachine! :) I´ll definitely go through PT tutorial series again. I´ll stop using HUD until then and just keep reviewing my graph. Did HUD distracted you at first? I can´t focus properly with HUD on. :(

I got my first HUD around 6 months ago so i can relate to your frustration. In the beginning i felt as though it was distracting me and i would find myself spending more time trying to figure out what the numbers meant ,than actually playing the damn game.

I also felt like it was screwing up my game and making me make some poor decisions.

So,im gonna tell you know, this will progressively go away as you learn how to properly use it. It will become an aid that will help you make ALOT of difficult decisions and is very helpful on ZOOM,which is exactly what i play as well.

I would reccomend you start off with as few stats as possible and get well aware of what they mean and more importantly, what they represent.

A good "starter" hUD in my opinion in cash games (6max) would be:

first line-------VPIP/PFR/AF
second line 3bet/foldto3bet
third line cbet/foldtocbet

The above are the most important stats your gonna need to be using as a beginner.

Of course there are more such as "steal% & Donks flop"" , but i dont reccomend you overload your HUD at first.

I dont use PT4 but i use HM2 so i cant give you exact details of how to set it up .( cause im not familiar with the software)

Good luck. Hope this helped.'

EDIT: and i wouldnt worry too much about the HUD in the beginiing. Just play your game as you would usually play and you can later go figure out by looking at your stats what your leaks are by analyzing your own stats so you can get a feeling of whats going on.

In that case keep it very simple at first (VPIP/PFR/hands) this will already give you an idea of who is a fish and who isn't.

Yeah it takes a while to get used to but once you do you'll love it <3

I downloaded a custom hud from the pokertracker download warehouse. It is clean, small and has the basic stats that everyone so far has suggested for you and you do not have to create it yourself. Also comes with some custom popups that I have found useful. The stats are as follows:

HUD : VPIP/ PFR / AF/ WTSD/ HANDS/ SQEEZ
CBET / FCBET/ 3B/ F3B / STEAL/ F STEAL/ DONK

Go to this link:

https://www.pokertracker.com/custom/hud

And it is like the 6th one down and the creator is aldon.

I bought PokerTracker 4 yesterday

Congrats!

It provides a lot of different stats and graphs and frankly... I´m quiet lost in it (it´s my first HUD).

Its your first TRACKER - PokerTracker 4 is a Tracker. The HUD is just a component of the tracker(this is a very common error, but we always correct people when we catch it). The HUD helps you be more productive by remembering who your opponents are in-game, but if you want to become a better player focus on the data in the Tracker's reports - that is where you will find ways to improve.
How to start using it? Just set up basic stats and then slowly add? Any configuration tips?
Start by reading the new user Quick Start guide - https://www.pokertracker.com/guides/PT4/general

Then on any page where you have a question in PT4, click the green [?] - this will display a short tutorial video on that topic.

We suggest you use the default PokerTracker 4 HUD configuration without editing it as some of the users in this thread suggested,it was designed for new users such as yourself yet is powerful enough that some of the best players in the world use the popups we designed for the default without any changes.

The HERO's stats will only display for the current table session in game, use PT4's reports or a hand history replayer to see your lifetime stats.

Your description of a Zoom player pool seems surprisingly accurate - I don't think there is anything wrong. To test pick a player name at random and count the number of hands you play vs this opponent on paper - see that it maches his table session count of hands played in the HUD. If it does not let us know.

My next question is about saving hand histories with PokerTracker. Did I understand correctly that PT saves my hand history on some server (so it´s not on my hardrive?).
That is incorrect, we store all of your session data on your local hard drive in a PostgreSQL Server. PostgreSQL is a third party open source database server application that gets installed along with PokerTracker 4 on your computer.

So if I want to play on my PC I will have all stats same on my PC and laptop? Or should I import those hands to one PokerTracker and there keep my records?
If you play on your desktop, you will have to manually import those same hands on your laptop. https://www.pokertracker.com/guides/PT4/tutorials/syncing-hands-between-two-computers

Thanks macromachine! :) I´ll definitely go through PT tutorial series again. I´ll stop using HUD until then and just keep reviewing my graph.

Actually the best advice we can give as professional players is to ignore your graphs... you cannot learn anything helpful from the graph, it is designed to be a visual representation of your results but it does not show you anything redeeming about your play. Instead use the reports built into PokerTracker 4- there is gold in the reports, you just have to dig in to find that gold! We recomend starting with the Statistics > Overview > Group By Position report.
