Hey guys, I’m looking to buy a laptop strictly for poker. My home computer is an iMac and I’m not too happy with the performance and speed. I lag when running more then one program etc.

If anyone has any suggestions in which is the best laptop for those softwares like pokerstars, betonline and so on

Thanks ,

Wow, I am amazed about this. I usually use a Mac at work, altough it is around 6 years old, but it works pretty well while running several progams at once. I have more problems with my old laptop here, that has 4 Cores and 6 GB RAM. Is your iMac very old?

You should ask yourself several questions to see what is good for you.

1. Will you play only from home or you plan to take the laptop with you sometimes when you go out? If you will take it outside you need something more compact and light. If not you better take something with bigger screen despite being more bulky.
2. Will you multi table? If yes you need bigger screen with higher resolution to fit all tables.
3. Will you just play using the client or you will use HUD like holdem manager or poker tracker 4? If you will use HUD you should keep in mind that they also require some resources.

In general if portability is not an issue and you have the money i recommend something with at least 15.6 inch screen with full hd resolution, corei5/i7 processor, at least 8GB RAM (16GB recommended) and SSD drive for the OS (at least 128GB).

Yes lol it’s a 2007 iMac 24 inch, I upgraded the hard drive and installed snow leopard over the years, but the ram is original and only 2gb I believe. From my research I think that’s the cause.

Thanks a lot, I am definitely looking to be on the go with my poker now that I’m taking it much more serious. As for at Multi table I was going to buy a large monitor and plug in to whatever laptop I decide on. Thanks for the advice on the ram. I believe that’s the problem I’m having with my current iMac.

Yes, probably the RAM is the problem, it is kinda few 2GB nowadays. On the Mac at work I have 8 GB and I can run many memory hungry programs at the same time.
And of course for an iMac it is not so easy to exchange the RAM, therefore it makes probably sense to buy a new laptop. At home I use, as already mentioned, 6GB RAM, i7 quad core. I can run several poker rooms with several tables and a HUD at the same time. But I guess my problem is the OS (Win7), that is installed. Windows always becomes rubbish after some period of use.

My windows 7 laptop and desktop are as spry and agile as ever. I understand that I can't load a truckload of crap every time I boot. Those who don't understand that suffer.

If you plan to use external monitor at home i think that normal 15.6" full hd laptop with at least 8GB ram and core i5/7 cpu will be more than enough for your purpose. Such laptops are also relatively cheap nowadays.

And you tried to clean and optimize your computer.
Poker software is not demanding and to run even several programs at the same time, a computer with average parameters will be enough. Much more important is a reliable and fast Internet provider! Pay attention to the quality of the Internet, and the money saved on the purchase of a new computer invest in bankroll )))
