Has anyone on a mac tried out Poker Lens. I'm gonna test it out now, and see if it's any good.

Hi there, lol, I was looking for info for free mach HUDs and I found Poker Lens too and now I read your message! It has apparently been on beta for quite some time under a different name: Xypto and I've found a discussion on another forum with a lot of happy users so I decided to give it a go!

I've tried it and it is very good but it is lacking documentation. There is doc but not very much. The hand importer is really very fast and the hud styles can be configured in a lot of different ways. The replayer is very cool too: you can see the pot equities for hands where you go all in, so you can see what your % was.

Now I think it is not free: only free during beta. Also if you go to the poker lens forum you will see not much message in the public beta forum because apparently the website just got put online a few days ago but the trick is to go to the private beta, there is lot of information there and obviously several people using the program on Mac (but they refer to the program as "xypto", not "poker lens").

For now I am happy with it because it has a good tracker and the hud is configurable and it is "free" :hello:

It think its good too, but I can't figure out the HUD. When I use it the layout is all messed up. THe names and stats aren't where they are suppose t be on the table. I know I can customize the layout, but I can't seem to figure out the editor just yet. I'm gonna keep messin around with it though.

I had the same but it was easy to solve, I found the answer in the Poker Lens forums: if the stats are all "rotated" by a certain amount of seat, it means you have set a preferred seat in Full Tilt and you must then also set the same preferred seat in Poker Lens.

But if the stats seems nearly correct, just not exactly at the correct spot, then you have to open the hud menu for one table: when the hud shows and it is not correct, you have to right-click and then the stats will be blinking. When they are blinking you can drag them to the exact position you like.

I copied a layout in the hud editor to another name then changed opponents and hero stats, then when one hud is showing I right-clicked on a stat (you need to be precise when you click or click is for the table, not the hud) to open the same hud menu and there I clicked on "change layout".

It is really very configurable I like that very much so far :p

To be fair, PT3 and (IIRC) HEM were also "free" during their initial beta period. PokerLens looks like a pretty high quality tracker/HUD App for the Mac, so I can reasonably assure you the 1.0 release won't be free. These types of full-featured Apps cost a lot of time and money to develop.

There really isn't any truly free HUD software anymore. In the old days when poker software was less prevalent and poker rooms were more bare-bones and didn't change much, there were a few. However they were absorbed by the commercial software vendors like PT and HEM. It takes a lot of work to keep a tracker/HUD relevant in today's market, staying on top of the constant changes across the major poker rooms -- most developers just aren't going to be doing that much work for free, especially if they actually intend to earn a living and/or play some poker (almost all poker software is developed by poker players).

That said, for the last couple of years there has been an ongoing effort to produce an open-source tracker/HUD called FPDB (freepokerdb). It had kind of withered and I assumed had died on the vine, but looking now at its 2p2 thread it still seems to be very much alive and now includes a HUD. Not sure which platforms it fully supports, but it was developed to be cross-platform from the start -- thing is while the tracker portion can easily be made cross-platform, a HUD is very platform-specific due to how it must integrate with the GUI to provide table overlays. As a software developer myself, I considered joining this effort a year or so ago, but ultimately decided that given a full-time job and family plus a desire to actually play poker when I had the free time, it wouldn't make sense for me to get involved.

When you play with software in beta setting you have to expect the product not to be perfect. Beta means in testing.

BUMP

Just saw this. ( https://www.jivaro.com/ ). The basic version is free. No idea what it's like but regardless of that, it can't be bad for the money. :D

Sadly for Matt it's Windows only.
