Hi,

I'm big fan of playing poker, especially home tournaments with friends. I couldn't find any nice-looking simple App what would help me manage blinds structure in these tournaments so I developed my own solution for iOS devices (100% free of course :)) ).

I wanted to get some ideas how to improve my app, especially about the default blind structures. Which kind of blinds you like to most? I mean, how would you create your blinds structure when playing poker with your friends at home? e.i. 25/50, 50/100, 75/150, 100/200, 100/200 + 25 ante, ... etc.

The app is free and without any in-app ads, available in English, French, German and Spanish. You can check it out here:
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/plock-lightweight-poker-clock/id888370936?mt=8

Thanks for advise

First off, best of luck with your app, as it sounds like a great idea! The only problem(s) I see, is in the way each home game can vary. I won't be downloadinig your app, as data is an issue with me. But I would suggest you allowing users to input there own starting stacks, and letting them them pick a structure type (maybe display it prior to them selecting it.) Maybe a slower deep stack like blind level, a more standard blind level, then a turbo, for more novice users. And, of course, allow users to adjust the blind levels, as well ass the levels as they choose, if they choose to do so. That would be the ideal type poker tournament structure app.

Hopefully the chips being used don't have numbers on them, just colored. That makes the entire spectrum of structures possible.

So, if it is a home game with serious players who will keep the action moving, you can probably get away with 15-20 min blinds. If it is more novice/social players then you may want longer blinds or else be OK with the structure degrading quickly.

Realize there are 3 components to how long you can expect the game to last: In order of how strongly they affect the length of the tourney is: # of players, # of chips, length of blinds, and structure.

So, the structure is probably the least important in determining the length of the game. But the good players will care, nobody likes a structure where the blinds double every round.

I'm a fan of structures where the cost per round increases no more than 50% per each level. so for example lets say starting stacks are 10,000

50/100 starting stack has 100bbs
75/150 starting stack has 66bbs 50% increase
100/200 starting stack has 50bbs 33% increase
150/300 starting stack has 33bbs 50% increase
200/400 starting stack has 25bbs 33% increase
300/600 starting stack has 16bbs 50% increase
400/800 starting stack has 12bbs 33% increase
600/1200 starting stack has 8bbs 50% increase
800/1600 starting stack has 6 bbs 33% increase

and so on and so forth

i either like to play very deep with low slow blinds, or very shallow with very fast blinds

really deep tests your poker

and really shallow tests your icm

100,200 ante 25 is the best variant of blinds structure.
