Win odds vs pot odds

I have been using Tournament Indicator for a while. I love it. It has helped me understand pot odds and find leaks in my game.

I am always confused by the win odds and pots bar. If the win odds are higher than the pot odds, it is a good time to bet. This where i get confused. I was playing a freeroll. I had KQ suited. Two limped before me. I raise 3 x BB. One after called and two before me called. The flop was an A 10 3 rainbow. Two checks. I check. Next guy shoves. Then the others shove to me. The win odds show something like 36% to pot odds of 19%. Everything in my brain said this is an automatic fold. Inside straight draw with A on board. Three others in, someone has an A at least. I know in tourney mode this is an automatic fold. However, if you made this call over and over in a cash game, would it be profitable over time? The odds say it will be.

BTW, it was a freeroll, I called and busted.... LOL. All three of he other players had an A.

I believe this was a terrible call in either tourney or a cash game after seeing the flop and three players shove all in. What hand range were you putting your opponent's on? How many outs did you think you had ? It depends on a lot factors , your opponents chip stack , your chip stack in relation to the blinds and antes , how many players you are up against, position , bets, equity. Usually when a person goes all in its an indicator of strength or belief that their hand is better or a stone bluff. Best case scenario for you here is your opponents were bluffing and even then they are probably bluffing with a draw or something on the board or a small pair.

I'm not sure how Tournament Indicator is calculating your "win odds" in this hand but i think that 36% is too high. It seems to assume that any K or Q is a valid out for your hand. With the A on the board and three other players in the hand, your only sure out is a J.

Read the post, I know it was a terrible call. It was a $10 freeroll! The question was about the odds!

I don't have tournament indicator....but I can tell you that you are confused about hand odds and pot odds.

you want your pot odds to be higher than your odds of improving.

if the pot odds equal your odds of improving it is a break even bet.

if the pot odds are lower than your odds of improving, you'll need implied odds to make a profitable call (they need to call a turn or river bet or both a high % of the time)

Your better off using poker stove (I dont use it) I probably should but I dont

You got the percentages and the hand calling ranges, so if you opponent is playing 40% of hands you have every hand in his range displayed so you can start thinking about hands he plays and he they will be playing them

36% would not be accurate here, and this is the problem with this type of calculator if you're not taking everything into account. It tells you your odds to improve your hand, not to win your hand, and doesn't consider the fact you have multiple AI's in front of you. Pot odds and hand equity calculations are important things to understand, but they don't tell the whole story especially in tournaments. It's one piece of information you use to make a decision based on the situation, players, and action at hand.

I concur that this is a terrible call to make.

They're entirely different tools.

I believe they calculate the win odds based on how often you win vs a random hand(s). It really is pretty much a useless stat.

Everybody has got hung up on the fact of should I made the call. NO I should not we all know that. It was a $10 freeroll so I rolled the dice. That had nothing to do with the question. The question was about TI win odds and pot odds. Geez!
