Same questions

This is also my first wsop event. I looked at the schedule and there are many different tourneys daily. I don't understand how these all figure into the big $1m tourney. I was actually interested in playing in the 100k or 200k tourney this time. Can someone help explain how that works? I also am curious how long a person plays each day. I assume there are many breaks etc. but when it's multi day, how does that work? Thx

if i am correct the some of the $50 tournaments if you win get you a ticket to the middle tournaments, and if you win the middle tournament it will get you a seat in the 1M tourney, either win your way in or pay the full price.

Taking the $200K event 5 as an example. The structure sheet says 16 levels or when 6% of players are left. So use the 16 levels as a guide. 30 minute levels so you'll be playing day 1 for 8 hours plus break times so 9-9:30. Day 2 will usually be a 10-12 hour run if you go deep.

You would be surprised how far ABC poker will take you in a live tournament. Don't "try" to force things to happen. Relax and play your normal game. A big problem at first is not being patient because the game is slower. Don't feel forced to play hands you normally wouldn't because of the structure. The cards will come.

Usually it is a good idea to go to the casino and play 1 or 2 daily tournaments PRIOR to a large event so you learn the pace and shake off the cobwebs and nervousness. Most casinos will have a 100.00 tournament pretty regularly. Not sure if I would want my first tournament to be a high buy in just because you are unfamiliar with the live structure.

After looking at the structure, there are a TON of 50.00-100.00 tournaments. Personally, I would make a plan. I would take my bankroll for the tournament and spread it out over games that don't overlap leading up to the Championship.

After the 1st tournament, I'm sure you will settle right in.

Great info. So most of these scheduled tourneys either pay out in a ticket to the bigger ones or enough cash to enter the bigger ones? So for us first timers, play in the smaller ones to get the lay of the land, and try to win our way into a seat of one of the big ones? Sounds like a plan...
For example...
Play in a small one, if you bust out, go have a meal then get in the next one, over and over, until you have made enough to get in big one or just decide you would rather watch it on espn later!! Lol
Do the big pros ever play in the smaller ones, or do they just walk in with their entourage on the appropriate day and get their buy in paid for by a sponsor?
Not only do I want to take a shot at a big tourney, I also want to see some of the pros I watch on tv too...
Also, is there any other information, rules, specific info, posted anywhere else for this event? Just showing the schedule is lacking a little in info for this first timer...
Maybe info from the previous event last year someone still has or something...thx

I wouldn't take his comment personally, most likely you are dead money, but maybe not. When you have average players vs pros who do it day in and day out, it can be a tuff go.

But on any given day, any player can win, which is why I suggested ABC poker. There is nothing "magical" about professional players. They just have a more consistent skill set that allows them to make a living playing. Trust me, AA will still beat their AK no matter who you are playing. The biggest problem a non-professional has it that a professional will be much more aggressive usually, and the casual player can struggle calling big bets, raising, and staying in hands.

The second biggest problem is hand selection. People watch too much TV. Tight is right. It will keep you in tournaments.

Wait for good hands, when you hit, bet. Don't be afraid and think everyone always has you beat, you will be fine.

@ dhdpoker405 I might be there, but I'm not sure. If I make it out, then I'll DM you. Big question is are you going to play tournaments or cash game? Both are pretty good during the circuit. How long will you be there?

Advice: If you are playing tournaments, then Karl's points are good to follow. Tournaments are all about survival, and building your stack. For cash games, wait for hands and bet them big. In my experience, there were a lot of lose players at this stop so use a strat to exploit those types.

Relax, enjoy yourself. Have fun. Play your game. Don't get intimidated. The pace of live play is much, much slower.

If it is a rebuy event, watch out for short stacks early. They will shove with anything and then go rebuy if they bust out. If you've got something strong, mid pocket pairs or Ace with decent kicker, don't be afraid to call if that's what you think they are doing.

Check out WSOP.com to get results from last year's event. That'll give you an idea how many players in each event, etc.

I'm sure they thought the same of me..."dead money" until I took it down for $211k. Now...I'm not so dead lol.

The question I have to ask is...why so many tournaments?
What is your plan? Satty into the bigger events. Pay full? What is your starting bankroll? Do you have a plan for early, middle, and late stages?

I should have taken down the only one I played this year in Hammond, IN. Got a weak player to 2 out me on the Final table with turn and river to go.

Keep us all updated and live the dream!

I figured that is what dead money meant. But isn't that true for about 90% of the field in any given tourney? I am a new player with a lot to learn. I do pretty well at my local casino in tourneys. I want to take my experience to the next level and learn from the better players and bigger tourneys. I am not trying to earn my grocery bill. I enjoy the game and I am very competitive! I could go down there and spend a weekend playing and learning and have a blast without making one dime! My life doesn't end with poker.
Most of the responses are positive and I appreciate the words. For the negative guys, i hope I play across the table against you because it's fun to knock you guys out - you take it so well!! Lol
Anyone want to meet up for lunch and talk poker, just let me know. I am still trying to figure out when I will be down there.
