Hi all,

Last week I was at the Deltin Royale - Goa, india, playing my 1st tournament (in fact my 1st poker game at a casino). I was planning on playing the mega satellite and 1 or 2 smaller tournaments for fun. But then I won the top 12 spots in the satellite, giving me free entries to all the tournaments.

Having won free entry to the IPC Jan, 2015 - INR 30K Main Event, my 1st goal was reaching day 2 in a field of 212. I managed that with a field of 33 remaining. I ended the main event placed 4th and won myself a nice bundle of cash.

Having learnt poker only a few months back and playing a few tournaments on pokerstars, this was totally unexpected. I did study MTT strategies last few months but I did not get around to reading about how to play the final table as I had no idea I would be one so soon :)

Now with last week behind me I am not sure on the way forward. Any advice will be appreciated!

Thanks
Avinash Tauro

First of, congrats on your score. How much was it?

Secondly, if your intention is to continue playing MTT's I'd certainly recommend playing online tournament with some good BR management.

Say for example you have $5000, I'd start playing online at $11 games if your experience online is small because they games play really quite differently. Of course this is super tight BR management, but the problem is, you don't want to start playing mid stakes MTT's with this roll if inexperienced because the swings are huge and the last thing you want to do is blow away 50% of your BR trying these stakes. Of course if you do very well at the lower levels move up, but always be prepared to move back down during swings. This of course is assuming you can't/don't want to deposit again.

I'd keep between 100-200 buy-ins for MTT's in large field tournaments and reduce the amount of buy-ins the smaller the fields are.

Hello and congrats on your great finish. If you have a big BR then you could try some of the bigger one's. But I think the first thing to do is ask yourself what you are after playing poker. If it's for an income, then you will have to play higher stakes where the bigger pots are at. For myself, I just play low stakes and don't worry about cashouts, which I have done several times. Instead, I just try to have some fun and hang on to what I have. Anyway GL to you.
