play hard in the beginning because every one has equal stacks so most people are playing tight and you can gain quick lead either by stealing blinds or getting lucky in a showdown , which really puts you in a nice comfortable lead . since its winner takes all don't tighten up to much you want to be in during the flop as much as possible even with low cards like a (4s and a 6s) as long as its not affecting your stack. play loose if other players stacks are one half or a quarter of yours. if you end up at a table with two or more high rollers they will probably check and you will have to rely on a solid hand and the odds are more risky. so tighten up until you get to a table where you can pick on some of the smaller stack players . but remember even if the table is full of high rollers a solid hand will carry you to decent win . sometimes it will even put your in a leading position. all in all remember to change your style accordingly get to know the players as the table and build that stack because second place is the first loser.

Actually the best strategy to play tight in the beginning..

When the blinds increase, have less 20bb, start playing more in the loose-aggressive style, expand range of hands, also more steal blinds...

not a fan of winner take all tourneys, unless there is a buyin, otherwise its just a bad lottery ticket

strategy wise, you have to play very loose because chip accumulation is very important

my opinion is that the guys have to play whichever tournament play turbo, normal ...) for each tournament is necessary to adjust the specific strategy .... if the tournament is going very slowly it is clear that we must play aggressively taytovo-)) if hyper-turbo vryatli get to play tight) quickly blinds will eat)

I actually played one similar tourney and won it where the prizes went only the final table. Field was approximately 1k players (1% get paid). I where conservative at the beginning and later on i opened my game constantly!

But i still think that winner takes all tourneys is more like lotto! (ofc depends on structure)

I like the idea of a winner take all format, however most players won't agree to such terms because they're scared! Nothing like putting it all on the line; win or go home, i like that!

In these formats, ICM and "staying alive" take a weird turn since... well you need all the chips in order to cash. Of course it all depends on the table. Generally what you want to do is steadily increase your stack, but that is really hard to do in practice. So you have to play this more like a cash game and maximize your chip EV. Play like you would deep stacked in a cash game in the early stages and then play like you would shorter and shorter stacked in a cash game as the blinds go up. There are many tricks to deep, mid, and short stacked cash game play -- head over to the cash game strategy to learn all about it!

But seriously, these things have really high variance, you're better off playing just about anything else.

winner takes all the odds are against you, if it's a free roll go for it.
