I play tournament because when I play cash, it's always as if I'm playing with scared money. I recognize that fundamental flaw in my play and just stay away.

Also, I like the ability to knock super agro players out of the game.

Everyone has the same amount to work with/people can't win a pot against you and leave :p

Good point, because hit and runners are quite annoying.

I like tournaments but am stuck in a series of just missing the money and that's tough to play a couple hours and thats it. Can't reload.

I like tournaments for the large number of hands you can get experience from for cheap, and also how you have to change strategies throughout. The drawbacks are of course not being able to just sit down and play anytime unless it's an SNG, and the MTT's can suck up hours of your time and leave you empty-handed in the end.

If you're asking about gambling then turbos are probably the closest to it, the variance is so high because of the blinds rising fast that if you run into a cold deck you're just screwed.

I like competition. I like the different strategies and phases of the tournament. On the rare times that I win it is just a great feeling.

Tbh, if you want to increase your net worth, it's better to play cash games. It's much more easier than playing in tournoments because of the luck factor. On the other hand, tournoments give you THAT feeling (you against the world).

Cash is definetly more gamble like, MTTs is more luck, and sng's least form of gambling. I think sng's and mtts are easier to gain informtion becuase chip equity plays a bigger factor.

Cash Vs Tourney

I found that cash = math, MTT=survival
Simply put, you can make a bad call in cash becasue of the odds. If you lose xx times, you lose xx dollars, but if the times you will make it are greater, you will make more money in the long run. (lose 3 times for a total of 100, win twice for a total of 200, so it actually pays to make the bad call) That's why you have to have a bankroll so much larger, so you can get to those times you will make it. It's based on a timescale.
MTT's however, you cannot afford to make those kind of calls, or you will be out of chips, and you cannot get more (usually). You must survive into the pays to get ANY money. And you hope and pray you run into a cash game guy who forgets this, and makes a call that is math correct in cash, horribly risky in a MTT.
On the other hand are rebuys. Some will jam all in everyhand hoping to chip up, but they often rebuy for far more than they actually can win! "Ha! I won $65.00, and it only cost me a hundred!"
Hope this insight helps.:D

I think tournaments are a lot more fun especially when you get deep. Cash games are good to make money in. But playing both is the best way to go.

As a recreational player you get a lot playing time and entertainment just for your little buy-in, and its not so dangerous like cash game, where u can lose the whole bankroll in seconds. I prefer playing tournaments also because of the competition and the thrill, when going deep. Tournaments are easier und less boring than cash games for me. On the other hand you are a prisoner at your computer, especially if you play large fields/non-turbos...

Absolutely. Stacking someone 100 BB in NL cash is great.

But playing hours to win even a 30 seat SNG is the best.
