In MTTs with rebuys, sometimes there is a add on period.

When is a good idea to do that? It's profitable or isn't worth it?

Me I don't know add on like most people does. So I would not know when the best time is add on.

mostly I do not see profitable, maybe I would if I'm in the average chip to keep the advantage with coming down
minute before the end of the period

No. Some may disagree. As I see it, you need to come in first or second to make it worth it in most tourneys.

Adding on is almost always worth it. In most structures, the add-on gives you the equivalent of multiple starting stacks for a single buy-in (and there's no rake). In this case, you should just add-on whenever possible as it's immediately profitable.

I am in a $250 freeroll that has an add on option on Black Chip poker. I doubled up, then doubled up again.(The equivalent of 4 players chips) Minimum payout is $2.75.
Add on costs 10 cents and is the equivalent of two players chips. I could do an add on in this kind of tournament for 25 different add on tournaments which would cost me $2.50. If I could be in the money just once in 25 times I play in this tournament, I would be making a profit by doing an add on. Usually 150 players and 27 paid. So generally, I will be in the money if I can acquire 6 players chips.

Add on pretty close to 100% of the time only in rare screwed up structure should you not add on.

The add on most of the time will help you a lot in some structures if you do the add on will be well behind the other players, because it is a fast and tight structure.

You have to take in consideration a lot of things when you want to buy addon. How many players are left in tournament? What is your actual position? How many chips you have ? How many chips you need to reach money? What is the actual average pot size? etc... In general, I do not use this option.

To make addon you can do only in late game - in specific period of time.
I always do addon, if i will win guaranteed money with profit. For example
left 70 players paid 20 places, 20. - $6, but addon $1, i will do addon, because $4 profit. Ofcourse its depending from my stack. If i am first or 10 place, i will not do addon.
I think you should look on how much BB you have, if you have 50 BB i think you can play without addon, but if 20 less, then you can easy do addon, its my personal opinion.

Always make sure you can purchase an add on. It's always profitable IMO.
The more big blinds you have to more you can switch styles and confuse your opponents.

The ONLY sane reason not to Add On is that I was such a massive chip leader before the Add-on that it made little if any difference.

If you get into a R&A and don't plan on Adding On, you really are playing the wrong game.

Regular poker players in my experience almost always make the addon, not only does the leader of the chip,

You should first see average tournament chips and your table tournaments chips , if you are short stack , and you are left 3-4BB you are in yellow zone but with 1-2BB you are in red zone . betteer add on is when you are in yellow zone because you will have more BB to play or more chips to win biger pot.

add ons to me are worthwhile if I am in a reasonable position and feel I am playing well.

If I am too low to get money even if I add on then it will be all in time shortly, and I just live with it, remembering you can pressure players in the money who don't want to lose their ITM positions.

There is usually a specific time you're allowed to buy the add on, after a certain level.

An add on is definitely a strategy if you really need it. I find more pride in winning the chips not buying. I admit I have added on but the times are few and far between.:D

Agree with this quote! You are adding blinds to your stack which gives you more hands to play. 5,000 to 10,000 chips added to your stack could make a huge difference down the line when blinds escalate.

There are two periods - rebuy and add on, so you can add on more chips only when add on period, I always add on, but if I have a big stack , I don't need it so
