It depends. You can either raise or call middle pairs. You raise, because maybe you want value or steal the pot. You call, because you want to see the flop or because its cheap.
Middle pairs are easy to handle. Often, youll not be in trouble with it.

Having middle pair is always tricky for me because sometimes I'm against a loose opponent where I feel I have to call because he can have anything... Or against a tag opponent were I feel he can jus be C betting... When it gets more than two or more opponents I'm ip against I'm leaning on folding more than anything and waiting for better spots... Make sure to pay close attention to your table I found make decisions easier

In the early stages the best way to play middle pair is to call the blind and see the flop to try and hit a set, folding is not a bad option either but if there is a medium to big raise then the best play is to fold. But if you are a short stack then any pair is a raise or shove all in. Remember that the main objective is to not lose chips by raising or calling an over the top bet.

Early stages play them slow. Want to let as many people in with the hope of hitting a set.

I like to raise middle pair if its just you and one other player. If there are more at the table, and you are an early position, just call/check and try and feel out what the other players are going to do.

It is significantly harder to play middle pocket pairs like eights or nines because neither low pair strategy nor high pair strategy is relevant. If you miss you’ll have to usually have to fold with over cards on the table when there’s two or more opponents in the hand.

Middle pair only pot control, never value bet with this hand, better play check/fold or check/ call,,

I think it completely depends on your opponents and board texture. Probably ok to let 8d8h go on a KsQc2s flop. If you have a really passive tight opponent try to take the pot down and if you get called or played back at you can easily throw it away. Note at that point you turn your hand into a bluff. That's the real trick is knowing if your middle pair is a bluff or you're betting for value or just trying to get to show down which all depends on the board and the villains.

I would say it matters on table image and what the levels are. You alwasy want to protect your hand. You will getcalled if you are beat or someone wants to gamble. If this is all preflop then yes protect if it is anytime after assess the board and what the risk to reward is and make the best decision you can.
