re: Poker & When going through a cold deck period
I like what Noobie said above.
Last night I sat at the computer and played 2 $3.50 Turbo STTs while she was watching TV.
First one, 4th or 5th hand, I had P-As in BB, a few limps and folds, SB raises 4 Bs, I call, one more call middle position, Flop comes A66. SB bets 3 Bs, I call, player middle position raises to 6 Bs and SB shoves. I call, middle player calls. Middle has KK and SB has 66, rest is history.
Other one, I had absolute crap for a long time, J5, K2, A-rag O, and paired rags in late position with 3 or 4 bets in front of me, no reason to bet or call with anything, except for a couple of opportunities to steal blinds at lvl 4 and 5. Then with 5 players left, it started, I took most of the 4th stack which put me in 3rd, and nearly everything after that was worth betting and the flop hit, or was an easy fold. Ended up winning easily.
The moral of that story is a couple of months ago, I would have gotten frustrated and did something stupid to get ousted, but I learned to have patience when cards are slack. Doesn't always pay off like this one did, but when it does, it's so satisfying.
