So the new rule in live poker is that if you check or call the river with the nuts then you have to pay a fine. So you have to raise on the river.
If you don't know what I'm talking about, an example-
Villain 1- Ax
Villain 2- Ax
Board - T Q K J 9 all rainbow
If villain 1 raises, 2 has to 2bet and 1 has to 3bet until one of them shoves and then you can call. If you call the 3bet or 4bet you will be fined.
I find this pretty absurd because you may think that your opponent is just bluffing and you want to see what kind of hand he/she is playing with.

What are your thoughts on this new rule?
(P.S I am not 100% sure but I think its only implied in wsop events. Do correct me if I'm wrong.)

There is no reason for you not to raise if you have the nuts. Any action otherwise can and will be considered collusion.

As far as I know you're not going to pay a fine. You're gonna have to sit out a few hands.

Stupid rule. I have a another tactic - in these situations, I often wait opponents call. Then rase So I can win more.
Maybe you misunderstood something?

Sorry yes, I did get a little confused in my head. Its also for when you are in position. So if someone checks to you then you have to raise. Check-raising is still allowed. It makes very little sense to call a bluff or weaker hand when you have the nuts. You should always be raising. Sort of answered my own question.

So, if you go for a check-raise and your opponent checks behind, you have to pay a fine?

Most people would just bet for value on the river with the nuts, but I could see one place where I would raise a holy stink, and that would be it right there.

It's stupid, I hope it's not real, I didn't hear about anything like that.
You should play your cards as you want lol.

its only a penalty if you are in position and check it to go to showdown. Checking to look for a re-raise is still allowed.

That's exactly what I thought at first but if you are last to play and checking goes to showdown and you have the nuts, isn't it obvious to raise here?

I agree this should not be a rule because you may just want to see your opponents hand that will obviously fold to a raise. All information is valuable in poker
