I have to travel for my work that will keep me out of poker six weeks because there are no casinos in the state. I wanted to know what you guys do when you have a break like this to keep sharp. Should I take this "opportunity" to stop being around the game completely or look for other ways to keep in touch with it?

You could always use that time to study, either read poker books, watch videos or if you use a tracking program, you could look your hands through and try and find your leaks, replay your hands etc.

RELAX!!!

do something different, take the opportunity to bring balance to your life.

I find when I take these little breaks I am much sharper when I re-enter the game.

Yes, take a break from it...

You won't forget it. :D You'll be back at the tables all fresh and ready to roll.

Take a notepad with you and write down anything you think is a good idea.
and what you can do to improve game.

for example recently I took a week away from tables. I wrote down all my imperfections and weaknesses notably what I feel are my biggest weaknesses.

I felt I needed to consolidate my early mtt game so I watched youtube videos of a lag player that won 56k on stars and how he dealt with every situation.

I also listen to alot of pro advice even commentry on live events can be useful

Take your mind off poker for the first few weeks. Occasionally, do some light poker reading. Your brain will thank you for the R&R plus you might get back into the game with a fresh perspective which might even improve and boost your play!

Just take a break. I would completely turn away from poker and do something different.
But I assume from OP that you're live player so alternatively you could play online during your travel if you don't feel like taking a break. Give it a try and see...

Since you aren't taking a break because of runbad, I would most certainly try to stay sharp around the edges. Whether it be reading books, studying hands, or running out a deck by yourself, but you wanna try to keep close to the game while being far from it.

There's a study break and there's a break. I imagine you an figure out what to do with a study break, but a real break is getting away from it - entirely. That may take some time to get to the point where you are not thinking about it all the time, but that is good for your brain to reset and get out of the grooves and electrical pathways your brain established about poker. Then come back to it totally fresh.

The key is to let it go for a while. Don't think about it study it just have a normal life. Poker is mentally exhausting so take the time off and relax. Let your mind clear and you will come back stronger than ever.
