I was at the the ft of the 5.50$ deep stack tournament on intertops poker. I had about 29000 chips I was in the cut off positon with a-10 off the blinds are 500-1000 with a ante. I decided too raise tooo 3500 total the button calls and everybody else folds. The button who calls has about the same chip stack that i have. The flop comes A-j-7 i have about 26000 lfet and there is about 7800 in the pot so i bet out my top pair on the board i bet out 6000 so the button thinks about it for a few seconds and decides to re raise me all in for all of my chips i reallly went into the tank trying to figure out this player had. I saw this player a few hands before this re raise some one pre flop with ak so i didnt put him on that ithought maybe two or a set i was really stumped. What would u advise Pt1 the colusion too my desion in pt 2?

There are several things I would have done differently here – not that you did wrong, let’s just call it personal preference.

First, I don’t mind the open here; A 10 can be a powerful LP hand. If it were me, I would have opened much smaller though, say 2100 to 2500 (I’m assuming the ante is 100 by the way). If he flats from the button you can bet your flopped Ace OOP comfortably for 2500-3000, this would earn you the same information you received in this example at a much cheaper price.

As far as this hand is concerned, you did fold right? He certainly had you beat! It’s impossible for me to speculate on his holdings since I wasn’t there and don’t know this player, but he nearly certainly had you beat; the only hand he holds that doesn’t beat yours is total air!

The whole dynamic of this hand changes with you opening lower; that’s the bottom line. The same thing would have happened or you would have received much more information much sooner and could have got away from your hand after losing the minimum – as it stands here, you had over 30% of your chips in the middle when you realized you were going to have to fold!

hmm if you dont give us detailed information about blinds, positions how many players are still in the tourey, how many cash etc, it is very hard to discuss a hand like this, nevertheless it is always good to be able to fold the top pair, reading that oneself is behind after the flop

I wouldn't have been too surprised to see at least two pair on the board, and I would have figured him for at least having an ace. I would also have to worry about being out kicked, but then why wouldn't he have re-raised pre-flop?
