TAG in early position
a little more LAG in later position especially later in tourney

ok....that's what I THINK my style is... I always wonder if other players see me the same way I see myself

Is it the right style? well, obviously I must think so if that is what I claim that I am doing! ;)

I'll admit this much...sometimes when I think I am outclassed by a certain player, I'll play tight passive against them...especially if they are LAG. I won't play that way against the whole table, just in pots with that player. call it intimidation, call it changing styles based on my opponent, call it a brainfart... Now, I don't exactly do this on purpose....I just later find myself analyzing the hand and thinking "God, that was weak tight!" sometimes it works in my advantage (especially vs. LAGs) sometimes I think I get outplayed because of it...

and lately, I've been thinking that I'd like to evolve to become a chameleon....not really having a "style" but being a neutral player that just constantly adapts to changing conditions...I am far from that but getting a little better at it.

Good players adapt to their situations by loosening or tightening up as appropriate. This doesn't automatically mean going maniacal or super-nitty. More often, it means being tighter or looser within or at least fairly close to your comfort zone.

It's worth noting that as you get better, your comfort zone will probably widen to some degree.

In order to change ur play accordingly, you need to be paying close attention to what your opponents are doing..when your not in a hand analyze the table..What are your opponents doing that u can take advantage of? Also taking note on out of ordinary plays is good. Look to Isolate weak passive players.

I like to play tight early on and open up my game in later stages of the tourney..and by then I will have. Good idea of how my opponents are playing

Id actually like to say that i play a diffrent style im pretty much a lag early on picking off the donks and tag in middle stages and than lag again when at final table it seems to work quite well because I can accumulate a bunch of chips early on, confuse people with my table image ,and if ive made it to the final table I got atleast half of the people there dazed and confused.

While I've said repeatedly that TAG is the best initial style to learn, you're over-stating when you say it's the best, period. You might, for example, read up on smallball or look into how many great players don't play TAG.

Style of play

I pretty much play tag poker ,more tight than aggressive ,the people I have trouble the most with are the big post flop aggressors,I'am not sure what style that is ,it's like you really got to figure them out or you end up throwing away the best hand.

Many books will tell you, if youre a newbie, play tight- easy decision on later streets. If your a shark, you can loosen up your hand since you have a good read and decisionss on later streets.

Goodluck.

Most of the time for me...it all depends on the table...If im with a bunch of nits ill play looser...however most times ill usually play tight and look for spots (esp in turbos)...If I notice theres a lot of better players at the table ill almost go into super nit mode...and its worked lol.....

Tight play is still profitable in the crazy loose micros. In general you should not have a certain style, because all depends on tables and opponents.

Just like buying a car or new clothing, you have to go with your own poker style, what fits and suits you, what feels comfortable on you.. and that takes time and experience. Lots of experience. Just keep playing and experimenting, and you will find your unique rhythm that works for you.

I agree with finding your style....but then once your comfortable with that I think you owe it to yourself and your game to "branch out" a little.

Now, I don't mean going from tight passive to LAG overnight.

but if you are TAG add in some LAG plays in certain positions or situations.

maybe enter a smaller buy in tournament and experiement with playing a LAG style in the middle stages and bubble and just see what happens.

I cannot remember which author/book this quote came (Sklansky?) from but it goes:

"You will find that the easiest money you will make is when you are playing a style that is the opposite of your natural style"

it all depend on the turny, but i try to double up a few imes early, and then sit back and let the turny come to me and only play to 5%. but as any good poker player know's, style can change by the hand.

Tight aggressive optimal play if played well will be good enough to avoid losing alot of money.
So its always a safe option.

I think poker is so much a mental tactical game that their is so much informatiom available to us if we observe players.
For example if im studying a good player who plays a certain range from early position and how he plays his strong and medium hands and hes trying to rep a hand he just wont be holding its so powerful tool to be aware of how players bet certain ranges and what they play in Ep, mp

Im usually playing tight early, from times to times aggressive, other times not. If you have any information on your opponents it helps you to understand whether its worth traping them or its not. And then loosen up on the bubble, more raises, all-ins with marginal hands to steal pots, after the bubble I tighten up again, because most of the shortstacked guys go all-in just because they got in the money and in my experience I get beaten by such players more often than I beat them, so I just pass for now. Might change that in the future. Play both tight and loose in late stages of the tournament ( Your table image helps you now, because people think you're just playing strong hands, which makes it possible for occasional pot steals ). On the final table when we are down to 6 or 7 I play with wider opening range. Depends on the tournament tho, but thats my regular playstyle.

My style of play is tight/aggressive. Of course, the majority of players claim to be tight/aggressive. While I claim to play tighter than most, but not so tight as to be nitty, I find that a whole lot of these supposed tight/aggressive players will play a much wider range of starting hands than me, but their raising range is much tighter than mine. My range is such that I am comfortable raising with any hand in my range.

Of course, a hand that I would raise with is not always the same hand that I would call a raise with. I might be willing to put a 3x raise in with a certain starting hand, but fold that exact same hand to a 3x raise from the person one seat ahead of me. This is one of the things that always puzzles me about the way a lot of people play. They seem to have it twisted. They are hesitant to raise with certain hands, yet are willing to call raises with much less. For example, a lot of players would be reluctant to raise with Q-J, but would not hesitate to call a 3, 4, or even 5x raise with Q-8. Go figure.

I always say you play the way that works for you. If it works for you, that's all that matters. I'm not questioning how people play, only what they call it. The way I play works for me.
