Because we are on the Internet in various locations throughout the world and connections and connectivity are in question daily this situation occurs more times than I care to deal with, but it happens daily in just about every tournament I play in and it becomes extremely annoying and difficult to ascertain the true nature of it when it does happen.

Every table, every hand, there is someone that has this problem; they are slower than snails when making decisions. They constantly let their time run down, they disconnect and pretend it is a connection issue, they pretend to sit out and often times it feels contrived and on purpose just to tick people off. Or they use it as a ploy to make you think they have nothing, only to come back and bet all in.

No way of really knowing for sure, we all have problems with connectivity, but is it really the connection most of the time? What percentage do you attribute to real problems?

Rude, selfish jerks that hold the game up should be ashamed of themselves.

I expect this to be normal behavior on poker sites, but the one's I have the real problems with are those that are involved in the CARDSCHAT community that bring that behavior to games where it should not happen.

Am I wrong? Am I overreacting? I just like fast pace games and I think there should be integrity in game play, there are moments when taking time is understandable and those times are reflected on the table, but always, every card, every hand? Sheesh. Poker becomes a chore instead of fun.

If I am out of line please delete this post and carry on, rant over.

Well what i can say, that shouldn't worry you and your game i only really hate it on hipper turbo multi table tourneys cause the fast change of blinds and their waiting time is big lose but usually it's shouldn't worry you how as i already said plus that most people do it on purpose but on the bubble :D

The only two times I've ever personally noticed this happening systematically is:

1. in MTTs that are getting close to the bubble and the delayer is trying to out wait the other tables and the blinds, and
2. in any game where a player has been abusive in some way and the other player is trying to make a point.

Connectivity issues can and do happen with cellular and wifi connections, especially as you say, in different parts of the world. Other than the situations mentioned above though, I don't think that most people are deliberately doing this. What would be the advantage?

here comes a paranoid thought but i see this a lot as well. i know it's so unlikely but as an IT technician as well i know it is possible.
I always wonder about a backdoor program that turns our cards over but they have to wait a period of time(like they have to start the program every time so it doesn't get caught using it by the site) every program has backdoor access that can be exploited and there are people in the world more than good enough to exploit these weaknesses. don't get me wrong i still play poker online because if i got the nuts you ain't beating me no matter what but some plays by some people are very very strange. haven't played many freerolls with cardschat but the ones i have played have been very enjoyable.
at the end of the day this is just my head and its paranoid way of thinking don't take it too seriously its just something i ponder about from time to time

Patience should be one of the main attribute of Poker player :), but seriously too many players on sit out can be annoying. Finally Poker is a big world as online as live, and everywhere we can find weird players time to time. Patience is a key i think.

Very common in MTT tournaments on pre-bubble. There's no escape just relax and wait

You're overreacting. You've got to understand how different players work, how tournaments work, etc. In fact, you can find some valuable lessons and patterns used in online poker. For instance, a ton of players tend to run down the clock when they hit the nuts (they do this for all the anxious players that don't realize the specific hand situation in place). Other kind of players run down the clock as a way not to hit the fold button. In tournaments is very common when the bubble is underway.

I have been on the bad end of this and i have done it myself too. Id say most of the time its just timing, and when you see it happen it looks like its set up. I have often been busy and running around my house while playing a game (which i shouldn't do, usually freerolls) and often dont have time to get back to the computer to click fold, and then see QQ or AA from across the room and try to sit in before it gets to me. Its probably something like that, i dont believe many people do it on purpose unless they have an unusually high stack in a tournament (something like 350BBs) then often they will sit out until they see a high pair thats playable. Thats my only thought on the subject.

If someone was able to see your cards the people who run the site would find it pretty quickly. I believe this actually happened on (absolute poker or ultimate bet) cervas network it was called. I played absolute for a living actually and made a good profit, but someone was able to hack the program and see others cards. They made about 2 million before they were caught, but it didnt take too long, something like a month or so and they found them, since then (this was 2011 maybe?) poker sites have been much better at securing the sites, and if they weren't you'd hear about it and their business would be ruined. Keeping that in mind they have a large responsibility to keep hackers out of their sites and firewalls up and working so these things dont happen, because it would quickly bankrupt any site, which are all ridiculously lucrative seeing as the overhead is a fraction of a real casino.

I've seen this too. Players sitting out in the blinds then sitting in and re-shoving. I usually wait till I have a monster to bust them with. Patience pays off;)
