Scenario: NL Holdem tournament. Cards haven't been running well. Just moved to a new table into the BB and folded to an EP raise. Now in the SB with an M of (insert #). Don't know anything about the players. It's folded around to you and you have a hand your going to play and your not going to limp. At what M (insert #) do you push allin vs make a small raise. Would 8 be standard.

i think 8 is to high, if your still at a full table 10-9 then u have between 70 to 80 hands before the blinds get you. i like to push all in when my m is between a 3 and 4.

For me M of 12 or below. You just don't have a big enough stack even if it's just SB vs BB to play post flop. I also want to maintain my 'image' for all of my other shoves. Also I like to have some FE when I shove and only shoving with a low M gives you very little to no FE.

Good Lord, thank you (ladies?)/ and gentlemen for your reply. So far consensus is 3-12 equals an average on 8, so I would say there is no clear agreement.
Specifically to Jillychemung - I have have seen push fold charts up to a maximum of 10- what hand range do you use for an M of 12?
Thank you in advance

Range varies based on where we are in the tournament, BB stack size, read on BB calling range, etc. but to put a general range on it 22+, Ax, Kx, Q8+, connectors 56+, one gapers 97+

Thanks for the info. I understand varying your pushing range slightly up or down depending on your perception of the BB.
I don't follow changing what M to use as the tournament progresses. Does the M your willing to push with go down as the tournament progresses?
Also, are you referring to using the smallest M between the two of you as the effective M to use for pushing.
