I just attempted to play two freeroll tourneys at the same time. BetOnline's nl holdem and AmericasCardRoom's pl omaha.

First thing (for me) was not to play two different games at once. I am a lousy Omaha player in the best of worlds. Is bad beats the norm for this game?

Another thing I learned is I have to tighten up early. I would just limp in, then the other game offered me a more playable hand. I had trouble keeping track of loose vs tight players, and it felt like I played every hand as the new person at the table.

I also noticed a bigger swing in my chip totals. I would be way, down, then way up, then busted, all in just a few rounds.

The main thing I learned (for myself) is playing two different games at two different tables is too stressful for me. Maybe I'll try two tables of the same game... someday.

I do not know about playing two different games but recently, I have started playing poker while I am reading or studying. I do it because of the need to bribe myself to stay at the computer and do my work. It does not matter how slowly it gets done, as long as it is done.

You have arrived at some of the same conclusions that I have:

It is important to keep track of players!

I often find myself in a spot where I have to make a decision ;

- is villain bluffing?
-does he play in many hands?
-am I in the money or close?
-what is the average stack?

At that moment, I try to get all the information that I can and often, there is some information I will not get the answer to. So I just wing it and play on the strength of the cards i have and my position. Many times that is not enough.

The important thing to take away here is that you need to be very focused when playing poker. There is so much that happens at the table.

You can play different tables and maybe even different games but it all boils down to making good decisions. I have played two tables at the same time and did well in both, finishing o the final table in both. Of course, if you are focused, great things can happen.

Whatever you do, enjoy the journey. It is filled with excitement and plenty highs and lows!

I tried for a second time today to play BOL's freeroll holdem and ACR's freeroll omaha. At least I lasted 45 minutes each table this time. It was still way too stressful to be fun.

I almost (and probably should have) sat out the Omaha game, but I was doing pretty good on both tables. Eventually, I could see myself making stupid plays, like when I raised in first position on a KJo. That cost me a couple grand, and it kind of went downhill from there.

Well, lesson learned and I will never do this experiment again (at least not on two different games).

it is normal to play on 2 different rooms. sometimes I open 3 rooms, but this is not very comfortable, especially if one of them started 2 games.
look for a comfortable number of tables and get used to them.
good luck at the tables!:)

I would definitely not play two completely different games at the same time. As for playing on two sites at the same time, I also dont fancy it all that much. You need to adjust to the different software from hand to hand, and at least for me that is a little distracting. But of course if its freerolls, you can not lose, so it might be better to play your C-game in two freerolls than your A-game in one :)

I think my large tournament comfort level is one table at this time. It gives me a chance to evaluate players (as long as there is not a constant table jumping in the tournament). I have more time to think about table position, how each player bets, and how many hands go all the way to a call on the river.

I feel freerolls are more about fun and challenging yourself. I tend to go with the flow of the table, and try to beat the players at the style they are playing. If everybody is limping and seeing lots of flops, I tend to do the same. If players are getting tight and aggressive, that is fun also. Trying to follow more than one table, especially in different games, takes out the flow and the fun … for me anyway.

Two different tables at different games must not be easy!

Especially if the tournaments are in very different stages (FT/bubble vs early blinds).

I would just stick to one game and a comfortable format, maybe 9 handed rather than 6 max so there will be more time in between hands and less time you will have to decide in 2 tables at the same time.

It takes time getting used to. I generally play 4-6 Mtt's at a time and it helps me stay focused and not get distracted. Freerolls are the best ways to start to try and multi-table because you do not have anything invested other than time.

After yesterday's failed experiment, I stuck to a single table in today's BetOnline freerolls. I finished top ten in two of them, so one table seems my sweet spot. I might try two simultaneous tables of holdem next, if I am offered the chance.

On a side note, I tried pl Omaha (freeroll) on a single table. I am really bad at that game.

Focus on 1 game at a time, try 2 and when you are comfortable you can move up from there. I prefer 1 at a time, but sometimes the schedule of certain tourneys just draw me into more.

Like many other things, I believe it about flexing your muscle- exercising so to speak. You develop the capability to do so with practice.

I too play the same way - free rolls overlapping one into another and today I hopped back and forth from NLHE to PLO and back to NLHE. But I am aware of my limits.

redboy23 makes a great point about potentially losing track of table dynamics. I found if I play three intense tables this happens. If three tables are fairly mellow I can cope, but no more and I try to stick to two for good focus. But I enjoy the challenge of flipping between PLO and NLHE because I practiced to do so...

Keep at it and you might find you grow into it and enjoy it, and as others have said, do not get too down on yourself when its free rolls!

I think it would be easier with two separate laptops.

To me its much easier to play the same format of game if you are going to multi-table. What you dont want is ....mid game to be trying to figure out is the plo or plo8?, is this super turbo or turbo?, am I far from the money or close to it?, etc.

It's definitely best to play one table at a time unless you are very very experienced.

So much of tournament poker is paying attention to your opponents, knowing their playstyle and knowing their emotional state (from recent big wins or losses)

When you play multiple tables you lose the ability to follow the action as you are just trying to keep up.

Best to stick with one table, enjoy the game, be present, and hopefully profit!

if you play a tournament with a large number of players you should not complicate it so much, often it's just a lottery

So, for you, slow playing a hand is never an option? Overly aggressive players frequently lose their entire stacks to this strategy. If you don't learn to play your opponents, the situation and the board as well as your hole cards, you are much easier to read and exploit. It's foolish to deny yourself a weapon: you just need to know how to use it effectively.
