It was 8th hand or so MTT, but due to the table I thought limping with the evtl RR, depending on the re raiser, was the right move. (I am not looking for whether or not I was right to limp, comment if you must...lol)
The question for me was what to do.
I feel like saying what I actually did do, and why, because I would like to know if my thought process seems logical to you all, but I will just keep silent - never easy for me - for now.
disregard the $ signs, from 1000 - 1999 it shortens to 1$, 2000-2999 to 2$ and so on.

Two spades and an Ace that someone might be slow playing?
I raise.

If the Ace is a scare card you won't win a lot of chips.

If you bet:
They fold because the Ace scared them or they call with improper odds to chase the straight.
Or they were slow playing the Ace and you build a big pot with what is almost certainly a superior hand.

If you check: That Ace is still a scare card, so if the turn pairs their Jack or King or whatever, they are still going to be reluctant to put a lot of money in.
You are also giving them a free draw to the flush, which will cost you a good chunk of chips if they hit it.

multi way pot and you likely have best had but there are a number of draws there which may have hit limpers from A rag spades / 67s /55 etc and would be UL to run into slow played AA...!!!

there is over 10% of your stack in the pot and I would be happy to take it down but will charge any draws and bet around $150 ...this looks like an overbet and a steal from position and may get shoved on by an A thinking you are on a draw as well as an extra bonus...

You want to build a pot. A set is not great if you win without a pot. But it's a heck of a lot worse if you limp and lose with it when you could have prevented it by betting.

This is not directed at the OP, but I think people often think that when they check their set, they are being tricky - THEREFORE they should win a big pot. But, I feel that we often underestimate the donks and fish at our table. Betting 2/3 pot will often bring ANYONE who caught a piece of the flop. Also, against two straight draws (one being an OESD and one a gutter) and a flush draw and an A, you bet the heck out of that hand. It's a +EV play (longterm).

Well, since I think that anyone with an idea will promote betting anyway, I will say this much. I did bet. What bet size do you all go with here?
I saw a coordinated flop get bet pot size and a few callers, and saw a ragged flop get bet pot size with callers.
